I did some casting with tin. Testing to follow

Now this is interesting , I’ve been waiting for someone to cast some pure tin bullets . Your results might just push me over the edge to buy some tin to try. It’s real hard to get over the price though.

well with a trap can bring down the price per shot if you shoot a lot..

I will go read the thread now and look to see how the twist/fpe/round bhn/rifling and barrel type stew is looking...

the Urbans hammer forged BSA barrel handled the about 10 Bhn of 4-5% tin in the melt very well and the twist is probably one in 19... and the BBT were stable...

They were stable out to 75 ish yards another Urban owner sent the out to... in tin they just might be needing some more twist...

I am guessing they will need a ~16 twist at the least... or the 14 twist of a .22 hornet barrel only one way to find out... wonder about how they would handle the urbans choke...compared to the semi hard lead tin rounds I and the other urban owner sent... he used SASS range scrap for lead... they tend to like about 8-12 bhn since they like to run mostly subsonic...

I would watch for wear in a L.W. barrel I do think they are softer than most... would watch wear in the Crosman barrels also... but at their price it's not such a worry... did get some decent results out of a disco barreled 20 fpe pumper... and I read one report of good/ decent results at 40 ish fpe out of a disco barrel...

what barrel are you goint to test them out of... I wounder about how cast in tin they would respond to knurling from under size also...

Yes I see I was in on that convo LOL , and some did drop at the weight you predicted

As far as casting with tin it seems way easier than lead, though the temp needs to come up just a smidge for the .50 round balls or I got partial fills.

James those look really nice for sure !!! I've got that same mold (217-30) and they shoot very nice with lead, I'll be curious how they shoot.

I didn't cast, but got this crazy idea to see if the 19 gr tin BBT fit in a .22 25 hatsan super tact, and they did

and it shot them out. so took some to work to test in the shop gun a .22 Benjamin Genesis gas ram, 15 yards braced against a golf truck 5 shot ragged hole.

More testing to follow with higher power guns

PS I have to go get the phone out of the truck, I have crono numbers and target pic.

Ok, I'm lost here. Why would we want to go to a hugely more expensive metal, and loose FPE at the same time? Not to mention, more friction in the barrel, possibly hurting longevity?

State laws don't cover airguns yet, so what's the purpose?

Just exploring different options. Cost comparable with lead free pellets on the market

Another 1000+ of the shortened 257420.

I just recently polished the cavities with cotton/wooden handled swabs and Flitz, and the bullet rain out. And look fit for the Lone Ranger. Ultra bright and smooth.

(Never do this with a brass mold. Promotes tinning).

well 40fpe .22 can be done with a shorter barrel than 60 fpe .22 ..

Sun finally came out and I think it got above freezing today so I figure I would cast a few while I had a chance. NOE 250-27 pellets second shortest pins, NOE .224 46gr WFN and a few from my new mold, an accurate .357 two cavity with one cavity 130AG and the other 140P

I cast close to 500 from the 217-20-RF in the morning, brrr it was cold out there but I managed. Actually they all came out really good with only about 10 rejects and I caught those while I was casting because I noticed them when I was pouring even before they came out of the mold.

I have been using these a lot for plinking indoors so far because it's just been kinda chilly for hunting out there.

Wayne, how is that M17 holding up? You seem to be favoring the old Crosman 150's for your winter indoor fun.

It's leaking like a sieve Bob, mighty disgruntled about that gun and the reply that I got from PA about it. I wasted two cartridges after trying to stop the leak (in the clip) with no luck. PA of course says send it back but it's not the gun itself that's leaking its in the clip. I might try sealing it again.

They're really fun to shoot when they're working. I think the Japanese need to up their game on building the Sigs cause my MPX sprung a leak also, I then managed to fix the leak good but then a plastic part in it broke in the loading mechanism just from pressures and they don't sell parts for them. I got hold of Sig Sauer and they said the best they could do is get the parts themselves and fix it, it wasn't even under warranty either. Parts for these guns should be available to people who want to fix their own guns rather than someone else getting their fingers in them. I've just had too many bad experiences with gun shops and reapairs.
