Do we have any test results of a 257-64-FN-BP5 in a 14" twist TJ barrel? I would rather not get burnt once again by buying a mold that has unknown accuracy. Of course 260-63-FN-AR4 seems to work rather well in those barrels ...

I have that BBT mould, but like many of my moulds I haven't even tried it out yet.... There is no reason it shouldn't work fine in a 14" twist barrel.... It is available in 3 sizes, 0.250", 0.253" and 0.257"....

Thanks
Bob, I just finished a late night test with a bullet I cast last night. I decked a new Lyman 257420 mold to leave only a tiny bit of the gas check shank at 2% tin. Weighed 63.3-6 grains.
Accuracy was much better than the shorter bullets. No Chrony work yet.
First down range at 50 yards printed a nice tight clover leaf all touching. (Looked like a playing card in clubs) LOL!
What the Lyman is missing is 1. the wide Meplat of your design, and 2. the missing middle drive band which should give your design higher fpe or lower air use.
I never liked casting with the Lyman molds. Always gave rounded bases in one cavity. GRRRR!!
ON this one, before I even cast with it for the first time, I polished the cavities with the mold closed with Flitz and Wooden shafted Medical Buds. Sorta like long Q-Tips. Cut to 2 1/2 inches, loaded with flitz and allowed to dry some. Otherwise the cotton collapses too quickly.
The bullets drop out with NO tapping required. Next I will hone and polish the spru holes. Far too many machine marks. Doesn't like to drop the spru without the typically required tapping. If it doesn't work to my needs, I will make a new spru plate with smaller thru holes, and very sharp cutting surface.
I find that a mold that does not require tapping, for either the bullet drop, or spru drop doesn't mess with the screw tension nearly as much as a mold that needs the handle hinge bolt tapped. Many times vigorously.
On HP molds with the system Eric uses, or the double thru bar method can be a bit more worrisome. A good polish of the HP pin tips and a good smoking usually takes care of any issues.
