H&N pile driver 22 cal. accuracy
« on: December 18, 2018, 03:38:01 PM »
Purchased a tin of H&N pile driver 22 cal pellets for my Marauder.  My first actual test shot was the head of a squirrel at a measured 25 yds.  since I have found that my rifle is accurate and not pellet fussy, I figured why not.  I have since tested it on squirrels out to 35 yds.  (head shots only) from a rest without any misses and all.  I had briefly looked at the pellets thru a magnifier looking for imperfections which I had read were prominent.  None that I would worry about.  My rifle is sighted dead on at 35 yds.   I have shot an array of recommended pellets and found another accurate one is the PolyMag short along with the Benjamin domed and hollow point to name a few of the 10 tins.  I keep 3 mags loaded and don't even bother to check what I load since they all shoot very well.  I do try to keep between 2250 and 2750 lbs. Never shoot more then 2 mags without filling.  Penetration of a pile driver is far better then the next heaviest which is the JSB Diablo jumbo Exact 25.39.  Which also shots well out to at least 35 yds.  have never shot any father then that with the Mrod.
safe shooting to all, Bob

The Piledrivers shoot well in my .22 Gen-I Marauder & Rainstorm-I.
They're excellent long range pellets in both of those rifles & because of their unique shape they buck the wind very well.

If you havent tried RWS pellets in a while give them a try.

Sorry, about the German airgun gate post
Was on and going to post about my FWB 124 sport from the 1970's that I had a new piston put in by Dennis Baker.  Still shoots 5 pellets in one hole at 10 meters.  When bought it was super tuned by Beeman.  Still have and shoot Beeman silver jet pellets.   They look very different from today's pellets.

This just shows how different guns like different pellets. I have tried the piledrivers, and can't get a decent group in most of my PCP's. Even tried loading them backwards, hole facing breech, they were all over the place! Glad to hear they are working for you, and welcome to the forum. :D

Steve, unless I'm misunderstanding your post, the hole is supposed to point towards the breech (towards the rear).
Although, now I'm curious how they would shoot out on my rifles that like the Piledriver. But with the hole pointed towards the muzzle like a hollowpoint.  :-\

I was considering getting a .25 MRod and decided to try the piledrivers 1st because of hearing how hard they hit.  25 cal. is not legal on public land in Ct. anyways.  To bad they didn't work for you.  Still have to go to the range and try them at longer then 35 yds.
During hunting season our Club range is only open on Sunday.  I would like to try them out to 100 yds.  I'm sure they will drop like crazy, have to check out Chairgun.

Thread moved to Review Gate and some less than acceptable comments removed. We all make mistakes. And a new person needs time to adjust to our configuration and find their way around the MANY gates.

Glad they're working for you. Picked up a tin to see how they performed with my Gamo Magnum...they only went halfway in the breach.

So now they sit collecting dust, waiting to be shot through a PCP.  :-\

What great luck, those pellets are massive. Maybe post us a picture of a paper target group some time. Be glad your gun shoots them well, not a lot do.

Vapor trail,  Yeah, I read that they are not recommended for a springer.  I mailed H&N and they told me not to try them in my FWB 124 .177 or any springer for that matter, only a PCP.
