Amazon shipping fail.

 So, I ordered a UTG scope that Amazon had a pretty good price on. I even posted the scope in the bargain gate.

It arrived in a bag marked “ready to ship” and had a few of the typical Barbie pillows in the box. It was not in the regular UTG scope box and the rings were already on the scope.
   Has anyone ever gotten a scope shipped to them like this. I guessing it was a return or something. Pretty shady if you ask me. It’s getting returned for sure. Perhaps I should Leapers know this is how Amazon is handling their product.

Amazon packing is the worst in the world.  If you ever bought pellets from them, they come in an oversized box an a pillow or two included.

Even when I complained and told them that pellets have to be packed well, got a $5 credit with assurances that my information would be forwarded, the next box that came in was worse.

It is best to buy stuff from them that is powerful in it own right and can stand up to shipping blues cause it ain't gonna' be packed well.

I would hazard to guess that that was a return.  I have never bought a Leapers scope but I would think it would be in the Leapers box versus a separate bag.  I have bought various Amazon Warehouse items in they come in that bag with the green screen printed writing.
 
I have seen scopes with the rings mounted like that from the factory though.

Leapers doesn't package there scopes like that, I ordered pellets from eBay last week which were sent from Amazon in a box like you described with no packing at all and they have damaged skirts

Return it - it is a returned scope.  I ordered on the recent Amazon special.  My Leapers scope was in a Leapers box inside a HUGE Amazon box with absolutely NO packing material.  The Leapers had the scope, of course.  The rings were together inside a separate little box inside the Leapers carton.  A cleaning cloth was included, as were two batteries.  The box was even helpfully marked "Wire Reticle".  In short, the Amazon packing was lacking but I did get a factory new scope in the box.  Bear in mind you do need to watch Amazon ads closely.  They have ads from other vendors and some of these ads are for used merchandise which may sell for as much or more than new.  Caveat emptor.

I just received my UTG 3-9x40AO from Amazon on Friday. Same day delivery, same packaging as always, which is to say the over-sized box with a few pillows inside like others have said. I have around six or seven UTG's, all ordered from Amazon and they all came in the original unopened UTG box.

Your experience is unfortunate and worrisome. I'm sure Amazon's monkeys will replace it, but it's still a hassle and shouldn't have happened in the first place.

As suggested earlier, I would definitely inform Leapers and ask what the heck is up.

FYI - amazon packs according to what size box is needed on the truck!!! NOT what is needed by the contents!! This info is from a conversation with amazon customer service!!

I'm convinced that the only thing a Prime membership gets you is that the robot drops the items into the box from only half the normal height (about ten feet), puts in one more Barbie pillow (I like that term) and sometimes same day delivery.

That said though, I still have had no damage.

Here is the latest follow up.
First, I got on amazon and started a return. I was simply going to get a refund and purchase another one. When I went to purchase, the price had gone up to 165.00. I called to see if they could sell me one at the sale price and they couldn’t because they were out of them that were sold and shipped by Amazon. The 165 price was from a third party seller now. So, I ended up taking a 25% discount and they doubled my trial time to 60 days. That way I can mount the scope and see if there are any problems with it. If there is a problem, I can return for full refund or exchange it for a new one if they have them in stock by them.

   Also, leapers warranty is excellent, I suppose I could send it to them for repair or replace. A bit of a hassle but Amazon is trying to make he a happy customer. Why they shipped it like they did is still the real problem.

I’ll post again if there is anything noteworthy  happens  in the future.

Bad deal Higgs!  I bought a UTG scope "warehouse" deal a while back that knocked it down to half price, no small discount for a Sidewheel, etched reticle model.  Arrived as new in its OEM packaging.. in a box with air pillows.  The scope had no issues.

Yep. pick and choose wisely with the likes of WM, Amazon, Midway and Ebay.
And NEVER order pellets from them unless you know they are carded or shipped from PA.

And I just ordered 5 tins of pellets from Amazon. We'll see. It's a shame everything is so automated these days, and most (not all) companies could give a chit less. I'm a prime member, mostly for the TV movies thing, but have had pretty good results with their shipping, unless like has been said, it comes from a third party. When you complain to a third party, they simply refer you to Amazon, and Amazon refers you back to them, on and on.

I just bought some pellets from Walmart's site. I figured I'd see how it went. I thought they were packaged decently, TBH. A bunch of pillow bags in the box, so things weren't just completely flopping around.

The RWS tin's packaging was good, the tin was intact.

The Benjamin pellets assortment had some pellets loose in the main box. To be fair,  their package was somewhat lacking. A paperboard box around a plastic tray with 4 sections for the different pellets. The tray had tape holding it closed, but that didn't work perfectly, and pellets were mixed around between the 4 trays, in addition to the ones loose in the box.

I'm sure PA or whoever would have packaged them better. But I think the weak Benjamin package was part of the problem, for my order.

Yeah, I’m not sure about the deal I negotiated. I end up paying about 50% off of retail when you add the sale and 25% discount together. If it’s a good scope then no harm no foul. I would have like to have the factory packaging though   .  I have another of this exact scope and I do really like it so time will tell.

Ya know, complaining about Amazon's packaging when they are largest online retailer worldwide baffles me.  You get 30 days to return stuff- one of the best return policies on the planet- and you reap the benefit of all the other stuff Prime offers if you're a prime customer, especially for an avid reader like me that also is the main person buying tech for his immediate, extended and extra-extended family.  If not a Prime customer, you still benefit from the scale of operation: a huge selection, multiple vendors selling through Amazon, fast shipping  that is in many cases free, and everybody else's feedback since just about everyone leaves a review from their purchase.  In fact, if you receive something or it is late or never shows, you can go into Orders and leaver seller feedback.  Amazon customer service is pretty darn good (I've had to return everything from computers to furniture).  Aside from that, every single item sold on Amazon has information on the web page you click "Buy" on.  If any of it is suspect, don't buy it.  If you don't want to run the risk of a 500-count tin with 490 pellets bouncing loose in the bounce, don't buy it.  If you don't feel that money you saved and the promise of fast delivery isn't worth the risk of damaged goods, don't buy it.  And then, even if you do buy it, you still have plenty of time to figure out if what you bought was worth it before the window for returns closes.


The way everybody carries on about Amazon, I feel like I'm sitting in a Taco Bell driveway at 4 AM and people are complaining about Taco Bell in the car in front of me... Nobody made you get in the Taco Bell line, never mind there ain't any other offerings for a drive-through at 4 AM.

Don't put yourself out there as the best in service if you're not going to be.
