Re-Call, Re-Call Re-Call::::

Just mounted the Gauntlet one on and fired off 5. Baffles did not get clipped but the shroud cap did.

I just can't risk yours or anyone else's guns to damage.

Sorry guys, I wouldn't want anyone's gun getting messed up with my crazy idea's.

Apologies again... I figure better safe than sorry. I would feel terrible if I messed one of your guns up with this stripper.

Who know's maybe it will be an all nighter.

UhOh! Not good if it's clipping the end cap! That seems odd if it's aligned on the barrel. Maybe your design is stripping too much air and it's creating an unusually large amount of turbulence that's interfering with the pellet as it leave the barrel.

I was thinking the same thing but, it's hard for me to believe it but anything is possible.

I think I was just rushing last night along with the Crown my mother in law gave me at thanksgiving dinner and trying to sneak around while the kids and wife were sleeping just wasn't working to think straight.

I think I found the problem. I didn't have the Gauntlet stripper on all the way ( it was a real tight fit ). Made a new end cap for the shroud and re-assembled this morning and fired 10 threw it. No problems.

I did through my .22 brass cleaning rod through the stripper and into the barrel this time to verify straightness. Definitely straight this time.

I guess that I have been doing it wrong, I was measuring the report at the muzzle of the rifle, you say that I should measure the report at the wife's muzzle. LOL.🤔

I seen Scott's and others modifications to the stripper and always thought it would be nice to just buy one cheap all ready done and just a little better than stock modified.

I actually cracked my 22 stock stripper when drilling it out.

I am starting to believe that there's something to this stripper besides just diverting air to the shroud. I am working on an insert now and plan on chucking the stripper into the lathe to true anything up.

Pic's and testing coming soon. This should get interesting.

Try increasing the diverter hole length to x3 have the pin inserted where it has almost 1.5 to 2 pellet lengths before entering the probe. You maybe minus one baffle but I think you'll gain it all back in the end and more. Be sure to have the end of the air stripper supported by the baffles so you don't blow the end of the stripper off?

Agreed. Ditch one baffle and make stripper longer with long diverter channels.

The longer the gap the more the error of keeping things true but I hear you.

This is about 1.5/2X length from the muzzle to the "center piece" for 22 cal.

Never thought that this was gonna happen.....

No sound difference either but what a geyser. Almost like the difference of me peeing in the back yard vs my 11 year old son "Boy what an arc".

lets say you have 1/2" dia barrel bore, have the airstripper ID at 1/16" less the barrel ID to allow the gasses to expand to the opening of the diverter. increase the diverter x3 as long as you have it now. Extended probe sets into the diverter hole about 2/3 to 1/2 way in. When the pellet leaves the barrel the gas expands and the pellet flys through the extended probe. The gas will be forced around the probe and pushed backward the shroud as the pellet leaves the airstripper. This may not now be as visual as it is with the garden hose, but it will strip the air from the muzzle blast.

The biggest obstacle is the shroud ID to Barrel OD, there's not much room there for all of the gasses to expand into. Lowering your report is best done by using a very efficient valve and not wasting air. That will lower your report more than anything. Then you work on the air stripper/ baffle design or LDC to suit your needs.

Completely agree srewwork....

Starting to think the air stripper in the shroud is getting to be a gimmick. I went through over 10 designs and have not heard any change in report. The only thing I can say at this point is that a poorly designed stripper is a baffle/end cap killer.

My last design and what's probably going to stay on the gun is an end cap for the barrel that is only being used for shroud alignment and venting from the first baffle.

Baffle design was changed from K style to cone with the one closest to the barrel 20mm long, then 15mm long, then 10mm long. This configuration seems to be the most effective for sound and no clipping.

While testing this morning the set screw on my gauntlet cocking handle became loose. Pulled the stock off and tightened it up.

Now this is where I got excited again.....

I think I found a way to pull off 1lb of weight to the stock with 2 replacement 3d printed parts. Now this will be great.....

Working on that now and will make another post if it comes out correct.

Did a comparison on sound between the 22 marauder and the Gauntlet using my PC app for DB. Finger snapping was 77 and a clap was just over 80db.

Marauder 22 at 25fpe was 71db
Gauntlet 22 at 25 fpe was 73db

Pretty darn close even with cut down barrel and shroud on the Gauntlet.

Thanks screwworks but, anything can be improved.

I was really wanting to move the shroud forward for more baffles after all this but, I really like the carbine look of the shortened shroud/barrel. I cut 5" off the barrel and shroud.

I am short but, when you can carry with the muzzle down and not hit the ground, it's great.

I really got to get a bullpup one of these days and sell a couple guns. Maybe Santa will bring me something.
