Old 392 won't hold air 😭😭😭😢

Heys guys n gals , I have a old Benjamin 392 modle , one pump and it won't hold air , looking forward to working on it , but really have never done one ,any pointers as to getting started would very appreciated , thanx !!!

Before you tear into the rifle, you might consider giving it an alcohol flush. Followed by a good dose of Secret Sauce.

Alcohol Flush (I highly recommend this for any gun that is old or been sitting idle for an extended period of time).

1.   Remove the butt stock so alcohol/oil doesn’t soil it.
2.   Open the pump arm/lever.
3.   Position the gun’s muzzle up & place a table spoon or two into the tube above the pump cup &
        close the pump arm/lever.
4.   Place gun (muzzle up) into a bucket (I use a 5 gal plastic paint bucket) & leave in this position overnight.
5.   Open the pump arm/lever & drain alcohol into the bucket.
6.   Cycle the pump arm/lever 4 or 5 times & shoot into a white rag. Do this about 3 times then add
        about ½ a table spoon of secret sauce or pneumatic gun oil above the pump cup? Keep cycling the
        gun & shooting it into the white rag until the discharge is whistle clean or your arm falls off,
        whichever comes first. If the discharge is still dirty then repeat the flush. In addition, make sure no
        more residues are released onto the white rag or it will affect pellet flight.
7.   Run a few patches through the barrel to clean & dry & you’re done.
8.   Be sure to cycle the gun twice before putting it away. This will insure all of your guns internals are
        protected.

I've had good luck squirting aerosol Ballistol in intake ports and pumping it through guns that don't seal. This will simultaneously clean and lube the valve internals and may fix the leak.

I have secret sauce, as i use mac 1 parts to rebuild my co2 guns. (crosman mk1&2 and S&W 78/79 series.)

What is giving me fits, is i have a crosman 761xl. it will hold 2 pumps for months on end.
'But when you go to shoot it, it starts with good velocity, at any number of pumps, but then starts to lose velocity the more you shoot it.

It is an early version, that is an auto cocker, meaning it automatically cocks the hammer and valve on the first pump, you don't have to manually cock the bolt.

plinking with 5 pumps, it starts off great, but after about shot 8 or 10, the velocity starts to drop.

I have taken it down, cleaned the pump tube, and cleaned the valve internally, it was good for about 50 shots before it started dropping again.

I did not clean the foam wiper area of the pump mechanism, so i am thinking my issue may be there.

I have heard many times that aerosol sprays have chemicals in them that can damage seals, and the only time I ever used a spray lubricant on a gun it instantly failed.  This was after 10 years of use without oil though.

Thanks sooooooo much guys , is the pump cup the piston like doohickey? And what kind of achohol , I've got some 99% stuff wasn't sure to use that so here I am again, thank you  much !

That's a good warning to give. Ballistol is supposed to be safe in itself, but the aerosol carriers might be problematic. The Ballistol guns are working well so far, but it's only been three months since I squirted them.

 To help determine how old your 392 is, and help us with how to rebuild it, Where is the safety?
 An early 392P is at you thumb right behind the lower tube (Tang Safety)
newer ones it was moved down to the trigger guard for your trigger finger.
 Two different guns internally.

I have one where the safety is behind the barral , the one I'm working with has the trigger gaurd safety thanx much

Most likely the one you are working with that has the safety at the trigger gaurd is a "cartridge valve" style.
While I have not rebuilt one of those, they are reportedly easier than the earlier "soldered in valve" like mine.
