I have to bring it up.....what about BB's

Please don't shoot me!! BB's I know, horrible little round things rotten kids use to shoot birds with. The reason I ask is I have about 4 full containers of BB's ranging from the late 1970's to the early 1990's. Just taking up space in my closet. Is there a reasonably accurate BB gun for under $100.00? I have a Crosman something or other that I bought around 2010 that is by far the most inaccurate shooter I have ever touched. Maybe something from Daisy?

BBs are going to be inherently inaccurate when you're comparing to pellets. Just look at how the indoor BB competitions are at much shorter distances. I had fun lobbing them across the back yard at sizable targets using my buddies red rider before I got myself a pellet gun. I never did any hard accuracy testing, but it sure was fun.

Under $100, your best day-to-day bet is the Daisy 25.  The Avanti is far and away the most accurate out there, but generally not for under $100.

A modern Daisy 25 will let you take 50 shots in a row as fast as you cycle the pump-action.  It's fun sitting cans on a fence and shooting from the hip at 10 or 15 yards and still taking them down 1 BB per can. 

My  previous Crosman 760 pumper was a brand new one (all plastic garbage) but it had the $10 rifled barrel from a MK-177 Crosman.  With pellets it was amazing (hole in hole at 15 yards) but with Daisy BBs it was no slouch.  I could hit cans sitting 25 yards away.  Now my neighbor uses it for chasing away squirrels.

IN short, there's good BB guns out there, and any airgunner who avoids them is like being a racing enthusiast that avoids the 24 Hours of Lemans or the Isle of Man GP.

This is probably the only time I would recommend buying one of these gun. Go to Walmart and grab a cheap Crosman 760. Toss the pellet clips away because, in it's stock form, you won't like the results shooting pellets.

It's all about fun, and BB guns are fun.  I have a Crosman P10 BB repeater pistol, and it is horribly, frustratingly inaccurate.  Using the sights is an exercise in futility, so I just watch the BB's flash in the sun and crank away.  I had to get a BB speed loader because it's so addictive.

I sometimes see used 499s on GB and other auction sites or classifieds and often they are being sold for more than a new gun costs, but you may get lucky and spot a bargain. And then there's the option of building one from a pile of parts.

I like to shoot at distances a lot further than 5m, so I swapped out the stock 499 spring for one from a new production Red Ryder. The MV went up from 240 fps to over 420 fps and the effective target range became a lot longer.

Just get a Daisy  red Ryder or model 25, you won't miss a pop can at 10 -15 yes and that's about all you really need for a bb gun.

Oh btw, if those bb's are copperheads or really any copper plated BB then chances are they've probably got some rust on them.

A Red Rider with the scope adapter and a cheap scope and a modified trigger will surprise you. At 10 yards 10 BB's will start a single hole. At 20 yards you can get 10 BB's on a 8.5 X 11 .

I'm leaning towards a Daisy Model 25,nostalgia-wise. But in the meantime I have this[if you don't mind blowing through CO2 like crazy.]

Tons of fun to be had with the lowly BB.  They make many "tribute" type guns, everything from modern guns that have the same feel, weight controls as a "real" firearm, these are great for practice.  CCW, or even if you play different pistol games they are very handy.  I have a 1911 that is so close to the "real deal" if you closed your eyes and did not rack it I bet 90% of the people could not tell the difference, great for draw, safety shoot, and accurate enough at 10-15 feet to let you know if you did everything correctly.

Also old style western guns from Remington to Colt, same deal, work the hammer on my single action and you hear the right numbers of clicks C O L T....and fits in my "real" cowboy rig.

Check them out, they are well done, and full auto as well.....the only down side is CO2.....I really wish someone would make one with HPA....I have a feeling it would sell like crazy.

Well, if you are into a vintage type gun and willing to power it with Co2, theres the Hahn Super bb Repeater/crosman 166, or the SW80g.  Co2 opens up a lot of options, and you can go through a lot of bb's quickly.

I've thought about the "full auto" units. But I think the cost of Co2 would be a bit crazy. I like the look of the Daisy 25.

An extra thought: the BB gun replicas (like that MP-40 lookalike) are a literal blast to shoot.  For the sake of hammering away at cans or just mowing down LGAM (little green army men) nothing beets them.  CO2 and the replica plus a ton of BBs still cost WAY less than any of the real firearms the replicas look like.

The 760 (much like the 880 and other MSPs) get a fair shake as BB guns, but IMO they are worth taking the time and effort to make them dedicated pellet-guns.  I've "fixed" a dozen-ish newer smooth-bore 760s by ordering the MK-177 Barrel from Crosman, re-crowned the barrel, and then installed on the 760, and in every instance I've been tickled pink with the results.  And we have several members here that a pretty crafty and can provide "quieteners" for backyard peace-n-quiet.  So as much as those multi-pumps get labeled as "BB and pellet", my brain only hears "dedicated pellet" gun.

The Daisy Buck is another extremely fun BB gun.  Seems the quality has dropped a lot- the old one I had as a kid was almost all metal everywhere, and at 20 child-sized paces I could hit a bottle-cap every shot.  And I shot many a fly sitting on a doggie-poo in my buddy's backyard with that thing.
