And this will result in a more efficient, higher power rifle (roughly 40 ft/lbs).  Did I miss anything?  I'm not really interested in making this rifle quieter, but I would like to improve accuracy to 50 and 100 yards.

Don't forget to add a .1 inch shim to the hammer spring. That should take it to around 40 fpe. Accuracy should be good unless there is an issue with the barrel. No need to re crown the barrel. At least for my guns.

What would happen if you adjusted the regulator without increasing the hammer spring shim?

I've asked ATI twice via their web form, but no reply.  Do they ship airguns signature required??  That is a problem for me as I live way out in the country and all deliveries are made during working hours when my wife and I aren't home.

Banker, another great video. Thanks for the info. When you drill the barrel do you do it with the barrel out of the gun or in? What all is involved? Never done it before.

Mine shoots oddly.  I have shot hole in hole groups with a given pellet then not so well the next day or a week later.  Barracudas almost always shoot lousy out of mine.  Most pellets will shoot 1 1/2" or better but there is no clear best pellet at least not consistently.
I shoot at 30 yds for the most part.  My gun is shooting at around 35 FPE right now.  I was hoping to get better groups out of the Barracudas at higher power and I may have achieved that to some point but I don't think I am getting the consistent accuracy I am seeing from others.

I have a few thousand pellets through it by now.I have scrubbed the bore with JB and a brass brush, two different times.  Cleaned it very thoroughly several times.  There is no burr at the port and I have polished the crown and the leade.  I have knocked down the edge from the leade into the bore.


My barrel seems to be choked.  It is also quite snug just past the TP.  When i push a pellet through there are several tight spots, they are small spots like a burr but they have not polished out or shot out.
Shooting this past weekend I had a fair amount of vertical stringing with several pallets but not all.  I have not shot any Chrony strings lately but I will.  I only have the $28 Chinese unit.  It works well but needs me to convert to fps and do all other calculations.


I do see some spiraling and my bolt probe is not leaking.

Thinking I need to lap this barrel.  UGGH!

As already mentioned, you may have a bad barrel.

I will mention the poi changes I've seen at 10yds, that would be magnified at 30 and 50yds.  I do not know if any of it applies to your gun.

When I put the barrel back in with the slight upward bend forced by the mounts, I re-zeroed it on my basement range.  Actually, I set it to about 3/4" below my poa.  Both verticle and horizontal were out, but seen the same thing when I had the barrel off before.  Next day when I shot it, the poa was the poi.   I re-adjusted and tested it the next day and it held.  I chock that up to my issue with the barrel.

I have also seen poi changes depending on torquing on the three mounting points.  If I have the action just tight in the stock (no screws), vs one torqued down, vs 2 or three.  I have seen both verticle and horizontal movement of about 1/4".   I need to establish a torque sequence and value to try to return to the same.

Now, my stock rubs on the action in a few spots, that maybe the cause of this.  It rubs on one side of the air tube band and tube.   IMO, might be better off floating the air tube, but keeping the breech tight in the stock.  It is dry now, but wood will swell in the summer, and possibly cause more poi shifts. 

The way this gun is designed, it is all tied together in multiple spots, temperature swings and pressure swings may cause some poi changes.  Titanium, steel, aluminum, plastic, and wood, all expand and contract ant different rates.   I saw some poi changes early on from pressure, but seemed to go away latter.  Possibly from being in and out of the stock.  I haven't checked that in a while.  It is time consuming to carefully shoot a full fill on a grid. 

Anyway, thats what I've have noticed, and might be contributing to some of what you are seeing.

PS: I have had the block that the air tube and reg adjuster shift and not be inline with the breech block.  I was surprised that it moved at all with 2kpsi in it.  That was rather obvious, because it didn't go back in the stock.  I was able to apply hand pressure and move it back.

Another great video, and the additional detail is welcome on the regulator.  I do need to go in and check the stack configuration, based on others having some "odd" stacks.  Maybe improve the Es.  As you said, good practice to lube the washers and spindle, too.

Thank you! You must take the barrel out of the gun to drill the barrel port. It's as simple as using the 3/16" drill bit and drill straight down. Put a piece of wood in the barrel so you do not accidentally hit the other side of the barrel. Then use some 400 to 600 grit sandpaper paper and sand in a uniform manner. There is a step about 3/4" down the barrel. I sanded that as well to make the step more gradual. Just get rid of any burrs. Use a Q tip to check for burrs.

FWIW: Given the upstream restriction is said to be 0.171", there is no reason to go larger than that on the barrel port.  11/64 drill. 

Burrs will also form on the outside and you can check with fingernail.  With the tight fitting breech, the ext burr would gouge the aluminum.   I use a ball hone on the inside burrs, and still takes some careful time to get it out.

Thanks Steven for the new video. Took the time to remove my action from the stock today and switch the two trigger screws, then checked to make sure my saftey still worked and what the reduced pull rate was like. Although it wasn't a huge difference it's still better than it was before the switch. As the parts wear in they seem to polish each other with use. Even before switching the screws around the trigger was much better than it was when brand new, now it's a tad bit better.

Steve, great video again, and a perfect summary. Thanks for posting the warning on the sticky so everyone would see it. This gun is so good out of the box, I sometimes wonder why we even mess around, but I know the answer. "That's just the kind of guys we are, always trying to make things better".

I think the reason there was still a little pressure left, was temp change after venting. Very cold after rapid vent and slight warming before you took the regulator block off. Did you dry fire the valve after you vented? Another possibility.

By "valve" do you mean valve in the regulator?

I was referring to possible pressure still in plenum, regulator and valve. The silver pressure release screw might only release pressure from the front side of the block ( Reservoir tube). Always a good pratice to safely dry fire a couple of times to make sure all the pressure is gone. Not being critical at all, just trying to offer a possible explanation.
