I plan to buy a barrel off of ebay, but I dont know which to buy.  I guess I'll have to measure the ATI Nova barrel diameter and see if the crosman barrel matches it.  Are there any other barrels i should look at

Well now your talking, why don't you compare barrel prices before making a decision? I suggest you look at getting an FX smooth twist barrel or slug liners. or anything below $120, since crosman barrels on ebay will cost you around $31 to start with. you might as well look into upgrading instead of replacing.

of course, you may need a lathe to turn down upgraded barrels. some crosman barrels may not even have the grooves lined up like the ATI...may need to cut a groove for the orings. I have no idea what other barrels OD are, I am sure there are dimensions on forums if you just search around

The barrel OD will work with a 22 cal crosman barrel.  I didn't check the barrel port offset.  You would need to add the o-ring grooves, and add flats for the set-screws.  The leade would probably need mod as well.   

Using a Mrod barrel, if port offset is same, would require a bolt change, because the o-ring is in the barrel.

A Maximus 22 barrel is long enough and would need cut back to get the oem length.

Sure sounds complicated to me. I would call customer service tell them the facts. See what they would work out for you. Maybe a returned gun at 1/2 off. Maybe sell you a used barrel cheap. They have always been friendly to me when i have talked with them. You got nothing to loose.

Anyone know how I can up the power on my .177 ? I want to shoot slugs but 13.65 gn monsters are only at 870-890.. NSA 15.5 in the 700's..
   I can play with the regulator and sometimes get into 930's.. When I put it away, the next day it falls back to the 800's.. Wondering if the valve is part of the problem along with the regulator.. Can the regulator be shimmed ?   Anyone know where I can have a valve and poppet modded or new one made ? The ports are already 9/64th..

Ok, well, I measured the barrel on my crosman 2240 at a tad over 11 mm.  Like 11.06mm.  I was going to take the Nova apart and measure the barrel, but I came across this post on airgunwarriors which shows that the barrel is pretty much the same size.. 11mm.  So, there's hope !

Sorry, I havc not been shooting it much. I bought it out of curiosity and put it away after playing with it. The shrouded barrel is pretty quiet so I don't know why you would want a LDC. It is an 11mm od barrel. same as a Crosman Discovery. I can't think of any issues using one would cause. Remove a single screw and the shroud slides off. You would have a floating barrel as the shroud is part of the front barrel ring. Actually you could probably use a TKO LDC and have it inside the shroud with the end cap off the shroud.

 funny you mention it. i have a ST barrel in .25...i am not willing to turn the barrel down just yet...at least not until the gun hits 60fpe.

i think adjust the regulator by turning the brass wheel will be better than shimming. I am sure Troy Hammer can mod or have a new valve made. i made my own valve a while back but i am not willing to go through that hard work. why dont you take a look at the valve and see if you can port it yourself?

 if you are shooting slugs only. just open her up not to exeed 80% of the slugs length? say if the slug is .300 long. you port to .240 or less (oblong)* that should be able to up your output some

The valve and reg seem to be the same between the two calibers.  The restriction is the 177 power adjuster and barrel port.  To go larger than the 0.140" on the barrel port, needs to be oblong for the pellet/slug doesn't start to fall into it, and impact loading.

What about a lothar walther barrel?  I saw a site selling a 24" LW choked .22 barrel for $112.   What's the advantage of a choke, or no choke?  I think my .22 gauntlet is choked.

I'm guessing that is the LW site in GA.  That is just a blank, meaning all the machining has to be done with it.   For an OD that fits your breech, the blank comes from Germany, which adds more time.  Also, if you are sending it to a machinist, they will only ship it direct to you.  They claim that is for ITAR reasons, but its an air gun barrel.  So, its better to have the machinist order it. 

A choke is a slight restriction in the barrel just before the pellet leaves the muzzle.  In general, provides better accuracy with pellets.  If you are planning on slugs, probably don't want a choke. 

LW choked barrels for pellet guns, are well proven for their accuracy.

Barrel and transfer port, power adjuster is 9/64 or .140 from the factory.. Also I ran the brass disc out all the way to the air tube and back one complete revolution at time.. 890-870 for the JSB 13.65.. Never consistent.  Another thing when I put the gun up the next day the fps is different (lower)..  I usually dry fire once to clear the reg out before running it through the chronograph.. So the only thing I can think of is the valve or regulator is what is holding it back.. I am a old guy with essential tremors and basic hand tools living on disability..
   Troy Hammer has been having problems, so anyone know of someone that can help me out with step by step or inexpensively..

Shooting H&N 21 grain Barracuda's at 895 indoors outside it was more like 860 fps. Just got back from the range to test my second gun. 3/4" to 1" 50 yards and an occasional flier. It started to get cold and windy at 3:00pm. Winds went from 7 mph to 10 mph in 1 hour. I shot two 5 shot groups at 100 yards. The first is nothing to write home about 2.25" But the second was WOW! I packed up and drove an hour home to post this.

I think you definitely got a Lemon. I'm hoping swapping your barrel out will do the trick.

I took much more care to make observations on the second gun. Yes, initial fill no mods I shot three different pellets. Waited an hour and the velocity dropped a lot. Then refilled to 3600 psi shot again about 4 hours later and velocity seemed stable. Then refilled a third time to 3600 psi. Waited till next day. Velocities went up but not as high as initial fill. Then tested for three more days and the reg stabilized. But I noticed a bit of a drop in velocities at the range today but is was 38 degrees. I just tested two minutes ago after the gun warmed up and the H&N 21 grains shooting back to 890fps which is where I had set them to shoot.

Indoors at room temperature I fill to 3700psi and stop at  2100 psi. I do notice that after filling the first 3 or 4 shots are wacky then they stabilize..
Awesome.  What pressure did you fill to and where did you stop?

At the range i fill to 3600 psi but had to refill more often cause thing seem to drop off sooner

FWIW: I did plug in Zac's data and you see the same downward trend.  I didn't bother with the last mag, since he was already off the reg.

Can you take a look at both barrel crowns the second barrel seems to shot more accurately than the first gun? Lothar Walther barrel option?
