"O" Ring on the bolt on the 50's Sheridans?

Got the tiny o ring on without any trouble. Bolt snugs up in the firing position without the cam face in place. I cannot even install the cam face with the o ring on the bolt. It came in my rebuild kit so I thought it needed to be used. The indent in the center of the opening shows where the bolt pin had previously been hitting. Did the late 50s Sheridans not use an o ring? It has no serial number and it has the thumb hold down safety.

Those years did not use a bolt o-ring. Save it for others.

I was at a loss as to what other options were available. Thanks for the clarification.

Don't know if this is the right way to repair the pump handle as I did not find any blog that talked about it. Knocked one side off halfway through sanding and glued it back on. Left a little bit of a line that I'll try to hide with filler. Tried to match the grain but couldn't match the color. Minwax makes a stain called gunstock. Probably use that and a semigloss poly to finish. I'm open for any better ideas.

Nice job on the wood repair!
While you can see the imperfection in your work.. because you know where to look.
Others may never know. Especially once it is stained the same and then top coated.
So much better than before!
and yes, +1 on the no o-ring on your early bolt.
Take time to readjust the cam after you remove it.

Real nice job. Not so sure I would stain it. Even when stained I think you'd see there are two different colored woods. My preference would be to leave the color natural.
