Benjamin Sheridan C9A 20 cal. that likes only one pellet?

Have a 1998 C9A and it shoots the H&N Field Target 11.9 very well and nothing else?  Makes no sense to me but have tried all 20 cal. made.  JBS, Benjamin, etc.  only the H&Ns are accurate.

  Yet another example, every gun is different.  A pellet that shoots great in one may not do well in another, even of the same model.  Strange, but, there you are.

This is a great point and I was thinking about this as well.  All my shots were taken with three pumps as I’m in my backyard and don’t need the power or noise.  I need to go full power and see if that makes a difference.  Problem is it’s difficult to shoot that many shots that loud where I am with neighbors. 

You got me thinking, it’s the lighter pellet 11.9 grain that is working, at three pumps it’s moving the fastest?

Your probably right the H&N is my low power pellet?  Which is fine for my needs.  Again forum comes through with good thoughts. Thanks mystery may be solved.

Yep, and for the record. I rarely, if ever, shoot with less than 5 pumps in mine and don't have any H&N pellets so I wouldn't know how mine would shoot with them at 3 pumps.

You were right on, pumped it 6 times and the Benjamin’s 14.3 were hitting very tight group slight to the right of the H&Ns.  Proves to me that for my purposes the H&N at 11.9 may be ideal.  I can target shoot in the backyard with little noise and pump it up more for a squirrel. If I switch pellets I would have to resight the scope.

Yeah, I learned some time back that velocity has quite an affect on accuracy in some pellets.

Value of the forum, never thought about 3 pumps not being enough.  Could also be the type of rifling, my 108 seems to be very accurate with 3 pumps.

Yeah, I'm sure rifling and twist rate have just as much affect.

The original “ash can” pellets, of which I have 1000.

The replacement for those pellets, the Benjamin Cylindrical do OK but they have to have 7-8 pumps...a bit loud for the yard.

BTW...The C9 rides under the backseat of the Silverado with some Beeman Ram Jet pellets.

A very good survival arm, IMHO.

It has one of TimmyMac’s synthetic bolt o-ring and that will last forever.

  Sheridans rifles are inherently accurate rifles, & will almost always shoot any pellet with very decent accuracy.  The few that I have seen that didn't were damaged by loose solder at the barrel or rifling damage. My original 1959 Sheridan has been shot 10's of 1000's of times, & is still amazingly accurate.

At what pumping level do you shoot?

   I usually shoot Benjamin- Sheridan pellets, since I have so many of them. So many people have sold Sheridans to me & just gave me their left-over pellets, which usually are B/S. I " plink" with 3 pumps. I also initially set the sights with 3 pumps at 10 yards, on a rest. So many people want to start setting their sights at 25-50 yards, with 8 pumps , & get frustrated . You will wear yourself out trying to zero the rifle in , & being tired will affect your accuracy. I shoot cans, plastic bottles, steel targets , etc., with 3 pumps, but am not trying to be an expert shot . If sights are set up well with 3 pumps at 10 yards, I move back to 20 yards & use 5 pumps . The point of impact is pretty close even at that distance. I " fine tune " the sights right there at that distance & with 5 pumps . For accuracy, I like the JSB Exact pellets the best, for accuracy. For hunting, I use B/S pellets, which penetrate a bit more. Almost all my hunting for 60 years , has been using 5 pumps. If I put all the small game I have taken with Sheridans in a pick-up truck, I am sure the bed would be FULL !
