P17 vs Vigilante

Looking for a plinking pistol.

Is the P17 significantly more accurate than a Vigilante? Or is it case by case, pellet by pellet basis? Thank you.

Atleast mine is, love the feeling of the vigliante, but my P17 is more accurate...

Same here, trigger and action on the Vigilante are harsher and I can't shoot it as well as the P17. As far as plinking fun...Multi-shot CO₂ revolver Vs. accurate single shot pneumatic....both are fun.

They are both excellent guns at a bargain price.
Buy both of them.
The P17 is more accurate if you want small shot groups.
Vigilante is more fun for shooting tin cans.  It is a double action revolver.

I had pretty good accuracy with the Vigilante  shooting it single action(manually pulling the hammer back for each shot),however, I don't have it anymore,and DO have the P17!
 Also the clamshell grips bothered me,and I ran electrical tape under them on the grip frame to tighten them up. jmho

Only shot one pellet to understand how it functions. So far REALLY impressed for the price.

The sharp edges on the top rail can chew up your hand. I used some tape to cover it up. Yup, a great $40 deal

Congrats on your choice Sam.... I have bought and gifted around 10 of these guns. I now have 3 in my arsenal. Love 'em.
For anyone else... your local Walmart should have them on the shelf for $32..... GO GET YOU ONE !!!

Oh yeah.... cut a 3 - 4 inch section from a bicycle inner tube and stretch it around the grip...... you'll see.

I use a fingernail file to smooth the sharp edges on my P17 and other guns with plastic stocks.

The air intake is underneath where it is not easily accessible. Dumb. You can always loosen the set screw and slide out the pin at the end of the piston, then swing the whole assy up.

See my post in China airguns. Look for simple mods for the P17. It shows how to make a very effective trigger stop in a few minutes on the cheap. Also use sugru to improve the grips. There are many other mods and suggestions if you use the search function.

The screw that adjusts the 1st stage trigger travel has a shoulder on it that limits its effectiveness. If you have access to a lathe, you can cut the shoulder back which will allow you to take out most of the 1st stage travel.

The P17 is a really fun pistol to shoot. I enjoy mine.

The screw that adjusts the 1st stage trigger travel has a shoulder on it that limits its effectiveness. If you have access to a lathe, you can cut the shoulder back which will allow you to take out most of the 1st stage travel.

Sounds like you adjusted-out the first stage and your trigger mod reduces the creep on the second stage (the screw is the second stage contact point). I’ll admit, to set it up two-stage in OEM configuration requires a loooong first stage and… the second stage (break) occurs when the trigger is nearly at the rear of the trigger guard.

However, if you want a crisp (no creep) break, and still be safe, the two-stage setup is a necessary evil. But it’s not really evil at all if you shorten the first stage and still maintain the second….




The above setup has a crisp second stage and will fully reset… i.e. if you let off the trigger without firing, the trigger snaps back and the link / sear will return to full engagement. The break occurs between the link / sear interface…



Do Not stretch the trigger extension spring. There’s no going back and you might ruin the reset feature. Shortening the first stage (with the above mod) will make the trigger feel lighter because the spring doesn’t extend as far. All of this is just my preference in triggers… safe, resettable, and a crisp break… hth-

My overtravel limiter screw is set in a brass machine screw anchor.  The anchor is screwed and super-glued into a hole in the trigger guard.  There is a 1mm piece of sandwich bag polyethylene between the threads to keep it from vibrating out of place.  The trigger was grooved by dragging a tap sideways, using vise grip pliers as an edge guide.  The rubber grip is from a 20" bicycle tube.  It fits nice and tight, but takes some work to get it on the gun.  It helps to roll it on in the manner of a contraceptive device, rather than trying to slide it on.  Be sure to clean off talc from the tube and oil from the gun.  If you're going to get fancy and trim the tube, use one of the molded "seams" in the rubber to align with a convenient line of the gun (like the crack between the clamshell halves).  That way you can get it on and off with the same orientation.
