I spent some time adjusting the trigger 1st and 2nd stage on my MRod.
I think I got it to where I want it, but wont be able to verify until I can take it out and do some real shooting.
Unfortunately it is snowing here.

I spent most of Saturday opening the barrel port on my MMHF barrel and also reapplied dry lube to the hammer and tube. Then it was testing time. I turned the hammer spring all the way up and it was shooting 970-980 with one shot at 1001! It was making crazy power for a 22 somewhere around 54-55 fpe. I ended up backing it off and now have it set around 850 fps for 40 shots. I figured out two things as well I have to turn my regulator down some and my hammer spring adjuster is walking around. It  was shooting way under dime size 10 shot groups in my little indoor range. I'm really happy with how it all turned out. I didn't think I was going to reach my goal of 40 for 40 several times throughout this upgrade. Had a lot of help from several people here on GTA.

Spent some time giving a little attention to a couple of my Hatsans yesterday. I had used the barrels off of my Webleys .20 cals on a couple edges I had with vortex pistons/springs. I had  put a shortened barrel on on of the Webleys and and a regular barrel on one of the other ones. I did a big switcheroo and put a longer barrel <( stock), on the one with the short barrel, and switched the other to a .25 cal I had laying around. Both shoot very well now. the .25 has a Crosman spring in it , and is good to about 20 yards as far as a varment plinker goes. the .22 is shooting a shortened Hatsan spring and has a mild tune on it and shoots really smooth and quiet. Nothing to do/ no money = two "new" AG's for me LOL.

"Refreshed" my old Crosman 766 pumper (mfg. 9/79). Valve stopped holding air again. Pump-hiss, pump-hiss...

Last refurb was ~10/2017 when I took it out of over 30 year storage. Yeah, that's a LONG nap!

It wasn't holding any air then so I opened it up for a pretty amateur repair job. Crudely cut a washer to repair toasted seal material on poppet valve and cut a tiny rubber seal for the input check-valve. Reshaped the pump piston head and used teflon tape on the valve threads (newbie shortcuts). All that actually worked to get it pumping & holding air and shooting "almost" normally (for awhile).

After the hack-job I ordered all the Crosman parts for a complete rebuild. Was just waiting until my hack-job failed or I had some free time. Just lucky for both to happen at the same time.

I thought I used some silicone rubber for that last hack-repair, but it wasn't silicone. Whatever it was had turned to mush. Was just going to replace the entire valve assembly with the new Crosman part, but they are DIFFERENT LENGTHS! Apparently the 2100 parts are NOT exactly the same as the old 766 parts.

Cleaned out the gunk from the old valve body and replaced both stock o-rings with new 90A Buna. Old ones were in pretty bad shape. Used a close-fit 90A Buna o-ring to repair the missing seal on the poppet valve. Reshaped (on a wood lathe) the white plastic check-valve to accommodate a tiny 90A Buna o-ring seal and add a little more valve volume.

Reduced the trigger sear spring force and the sear engagement just a little. Added some teflon washers to sear pivot pin to stop the slop (wobble). That actually improved the trigger quite a bit, but I think it could still be little better.

Cleaned barrel, checked for sight screws hitting barrel (not even close), shimmed to stop barrel play and shroud play in metal receiver, re-assembled with new piston head cup, and lubed up with good quality non-detergent synthetic oil.

NOW it pumps and sounds (SPLAT) like I remember! Chronograph says muzzle velocity is averaging 600 fps @ 6 pumps for a 7.8 grain pellet and 700 fps @ 10 pumps. Got the old iron sights dialed in for 30' range. Rifle is easily putting 10 shots (@6 pumps) into 1/2" groups. That's good enough for me!

I remember hunting with this rifle Winter 1981. Only used the Daisy or Crosman wadcutters back then.  Had one 10 pump heart/lung body shot on a rabbit at about 40' that looked like a complete miss. Rabbit casually hopped about 3' then laid over DRT. On prepping for the stew pot, I found the pellet had passed all the way through the chest and lodged just under the skin on far side. I was surprised because my older 760 didn't have that kind of penetration or accuracy. This rifle is a keeper for sentimental reasons alone. Nice that it is also still a good shooter!

Walmart didn't have any CPHP'S left so I picked up some piranhas while I was there since I know at least my 880 likes them.
American Boy does not like them at all.

I decided to take a look at the crown since I forgot to look and it turns out it wasn't great at all, so I recrowned the barrel.
After that it sounded strange and it shot way low, then I noticed the air I was feeling.
No wonder, I had the transfer port upside down 

He still hates the piranhas, but the premier destroyers it likes quite a bit.
The POI has shifted but groups are still pretty good.
Hopefully the next time I go to Walmart which won't be the same one anyways they will have more than just an empty CPHP carton.

Oh btw while there I saw a clueless or outright misinformed dad buying his son a bb gun "  I couldn't offer any information however because he was Mexican and spoke little English.
As far as I could gather he wanted the most powerful " break open BB gun they had" he looked at everything including a Daisy 880 which he quickly put back because it was a " crank up bb gun ".
Then I hear the " new guy " tell the lady who knew at least something that he wanted to know what bb's it shot.
She said " grab the red and blue .177 pellets.

I'll bet this sounds familiar to others here.

I backed off of shooting today. We got a baby owl that failed at it's first attempt to fledge in the back yard. It's parents are watching over it and I want to let that happen naturally. Those owls are a great help to keep some of the other pest critters in check.

Finished rebuilding a Crosman 2200 Magnum (Canadian with the blow-off valve) for a friend. It's mint and shoots real good!

Did some more work to the Crown on American Boy .

I've been scratching my head all day with the accuracy on this gun.
I would get 2 shots stacked then another two shots stacked somewhere else, and I determined it was part me and part the focus on the scope.
It's one of those situations where you either get the bull or the croshairs in focus.
I swapped the rear bell from another scope and cut down that ring you use to lock the rear bell down so I could adjust it in enough, then made sure to be as consistent as possible with my head placement and got much better groups.

I'm not a scope kind of guy so I really don't know if this is normal, but the gun will get a rear peep here soon.
The 5d ag still isn't available and I'm not patient enough so I'll probably end up settling for the wgrs54.

Cycles well, trigger feels good, fps is okay, but I cant group within 3 inches at 30 yards! One shot bullseye, next shot 2"" up an right, next shot bulls eye, next shot 1" down and left. I ran it over the chrony today and it was pretty consistent in the mid 740's.

And yes I checked the screws

It's called FRUSTRATION! Time to put that one down and pick up another. I go through the same thing every now an then. Go outside, smell the flowers, take in a sunset, relax and become one with yourself.

A few weeks ago I made over a MK 177 barrel for the 1377 RC.  So anyway, everything changed as I made the RC over into .22
Today, I finessed the MK barrel a bit so it would better fit my Baker aluminum breech, and now my 1740 carbine has a bit shorter barrel with a poly transfer port.
It had been 24" before...I didn't want to chop it.
