Airgun Specific Scopes

looking for a cheap fixed focus scope for a "knock about" air rifle that is only used at 20yrds.


looking for a 4X, compact (if possible) with a 20 - 25yrd parallax. 

however, most scopes i look at have their parallax set at 100 yrds.  why would say Gamo (example) offer a 4X scope with a 100yrd parallax?

the best i've found is a CP 30yrd parallax.

i know, i know, i can purchase an AO for not much more, but this is for a grandson and i want it as simple and light weight as possible.

i also don't understand why picattiny or 20mm weaver mounts come with so many scopes when the majority of rifles have 11mm rails?

Many rimfire scopes come set at 50 yards.... but many of them would not stand up to a Springer.... If it's a PCP, CO2 or pumper, no problem....

You can usually adjust the parallax on a "normal" scope by loosening or removing the ring, and then there should be notches in the part underneath that you can use to turn the objective bell until it focuses at the desired depth.

I've done this with a Vism HAWG 3-9x40 + green laser scope, and an NC Star 2-7x32 pistol scope. I focused them both to 25 yards and now they are perfect for the back yard.

I would be a bit nervous doing that with a Nitrogen filled, or Hermetically sealed scope.... You could end up with it fogging up inside.... but if it works for you, great !!!

UTG/Leapers has three scopes with 35 yard parallax.

The lightest of those three is a 4x32, weighs 13.1oz. and cost about $50. They also have a very compact 3-12x32 Bugbuster with a side parallax adjuster and weighs only 13oz. and cost a little over $100.

A 4x scope with a 30 or 35 yard parallax will still be fairly clear at 25 yards.

Yeah I've only been brave enough to try this on sub $50 scopes!

I think I have that CP scope you are talking about. I have it on my 1377 and paid about $13 for it.
Its good enough for my 1377 and its very light. It wouldn't add much weight to a rifle being used by a boy.
The scope holds zero better than my 1377's ability to accurately fire a bb.

Please let us know exactly what gun this scope is to be mounted on....it may make a difference.

  Compact scopes sometimes or usually suffer in optical quality compared to full size scopes and they aren't necessarily lighter in weight.
  Compact scopes are virtually always harder to mount properly and may require an offset mount for proper eye relief. The fixed ring spread of a one piece offset mount may not even even fit on a compact scope.

Two piece UTG type rings may usually be purchased on ebay for $5 shipped, and sometimes may be sniped for $3.

  A fixed parallax scope may sometimes or usually be re-parallaxed as mentioned, but it will be a bit off unless shot at a specific distance all the time.
 
If one of these cheap scopes loses it's nitrogen fill, no big deal, it will almost for sure lose it on it's own even if not re parallaxed...it's not like low cost optics are precision sealed instruments.
 
A scope with Adjustable Objective is well worth having and it's not an advanced concept to adjust one. It the child is gonna be shooting, he should be learning to judge distance anyway.
 And judging distance is a valuable life skill even when not shooting.

the rifle is a M.M. tuned Xisico XS12.  my grandson has become quite good shooting it with the "iron" sights, but he wanted to learn to shoot with a scope.  he's quite small for a 10 year old and i didn't want to weigh the rifle down with a heavy scope.  i picked up a cheap used scope at a gun show for $4.  some chinese brand, but it works and he's learning hold over/under.


he went from shooting soda cans to the small "dixie" cups filled with water.  he shows no interest in hunting.
