BSA R10 SE - chrome stripping
«

I have a brand new BSA R10 SE. I am noticing the chrome coating has started to strip off from the bolt.
Does this means a defective bolt and something that needs to be replaced or something poorly built or the quality control?
I hate to see something like this on an expensive gun line.
Please advise.

It is a known issue with the R-10's and can't believe BSA hasn't fixed it yet. XTX air sells stainless bolt probes and that will solve the problem. XTX air sells lots of goodies for BSA guns check em out. Even though they are in the UK the shipping is fast, when I ordered from them it arrived in about a week.
Stinks to have to spend money to fix an issue that should have never happened. Maybe send it back for repair (though if they replace it with an oem bolt it may just happen again?).

The first time I heard about it was during Nitrocrushrs' R-10 build. Research brought up more info so I ordered the stainless steel one from XTX along with a new shroud and Huma regulator also for the R-10.
I have not installed the parts yet.

my bolt is still in perfect condition but its only a few months old...
but it is nothing totally surprising if you read some topics about the r10 in UK airgun forums.
i changed the regulator, hammerstriker, hammerspring, transfer port
it is a really nice rifle design to work on. you can access the regulator without removing any parts.
just remove the stock, 1/2 turn to 1 turn of the bottle, shoot the system empty and you can uncrew the regulator by hand
the hammer spring adjuster is behind a cover and this can be a bit pain in the @@@. xtx makes a tool to remove the cover. (if its tight or glued)
im using a very light spring with only a bit of preload because im limited.. europe. the small advantage of that is, that there is not much cooking force and i can adjust the trigger extremly light.
with a heavier spring or more preload you have to adjust more sear engagement to be safe!
did you order the huub shroud taso1000 ?
i got the two stage from air-fective. its very quiet and well made.

Thank you for the input guys.
Update:
Spoke to Pyramyd air and they were super nice and honest about the issue and offered to replace the whole rifle since it is still in 30 day period. On their advise i contacted GAMO USA and they are sending me a new bolt.
Taso,
I will look into the stainless steel version and likely change it in the near future.
Which shroud do you have on R10??

I know some folks sanded/polished the chrome off the stock bolt and had no issues. You may think about that when you replace it to have a backup in case it happens again

Heinrich and Endo,
Yes, I did buy the Huub shroud:
https://www.xtxair.com/bsa-r-10/shroud-bullbarrel-huub-18-5-barrel-version-fac-export
Right now the stock shroud is installed. Swapping the new parts on the R-10 is in the very near future.
I will let you know how it compares once installed.

I used a Huub shroud on my BSA Scorpion SE .22. It worked very well on keeping the noise down.
