I have decided I think I would like the hw30s. With the wood stock, and 18 lb. cocking, and a very good trigger, sounds like a good choice. I couldn't find what the weight is ?

Everyone has their favorite brand, some trash talk about brand "x" while others are quite happy with the same thing.
I bought a crosman 760 really cheap, it was okay, but not accurate enough.
Then I went with a Benjamin Marauder in 25 caliber and I'm very happy with it.
There are some types that almost everyone likes. Like the RWS 34.
It's a hard question to pick just one rifle with a tight budget.
It's a common practice to buy a likely prospect, shoot it a while, and sell it if it's not the darling you hoped for.
I have a really hard time to recommend any because I only really shoot the Marauder. I like the Marauder a lot.

The HW30S is an excellent rifle. It is a rifle you can hand down to your kids, and your kids to their kids. It is just a nice, pleasant shooting rifle. Build quality is great. Buy a bunch of JSB (or Air Arms) 7.33grain pellets to shoot out of it and enjoy life.

The HW30 receives a lot of good reviews. It uses the Rekord trigger assembly - this is about a match grade trigger. Cocking is easy because power is low, making it an easy gun to shoot with its reduced recoil.
If you are a large person with long arms it may not work for you. If you are of a smaller frame it could be perfect. If you're on a tight budget you could look at the Diana 240, which at half the price isn't QUITE as good, but close.

Post a photo when you get it. It is a rifle I would like to try one day. It would be just right to shoot anything I need shot including paper.

I have two HW30S', one scoped and one peep sighted. I couldn't agree more with Brazos' above statement...including the pellet selection.

It looks like the HW30 and the R7 are currently the same price at PA. The R7 usually has a nicer stock. Other than that, same gun.
Ditto on the 7.33gr pellets.

Check with Mike at Flying Dragon I think you can get the HW 30 from him with a full tune for the same price as PA.
If I had known this before I bought my R7 this is what I would have done.
Love the R7 though so all is good.
He may be able to get the R7 also.

The R7/HW30 was my first "real" air rifle. If I could only have 2 (or maybe 3!!!) the R7 would be a keeper. Super accurate, easy to hold and shoot, and it's super accurate.

If you choose to go with a scope, I would recommend a Hawke Airmax in 4-12X40. The etched glass reticle is very crisp and helps once you determine hold over for those farther shots.

I wish the hw30 would of at least checkered the stock, pretty plain for the price. The reviews on it are very good.

I have a lot of experience with the Beeman R7, which is effectively the same gun. I killed thousands of pest pigeon with one (literally) before I started bringing my Blue Streak. You would be hard-pressed to find a springer that has all the same attributes at a similar pricepoint, and Weirauch barrels are bleeping awesome.
