I’ve done this with all my power burner scope rings, unless I opt for DNZ one piece rings, and that is to lap the rings.
With nothing better to do then surf every topic and page from the 1900’s here on GTA, I have not seen any inquiry or topic asked about lapping of scope rings. I’m curious if any of you lap your scope rings prior to the finalized mounting, on your PCP guns.
Or maybe it’s a given?
Some of the scopes that you all mount on these things are really high dollar, and lapping ensures no ring marks and perfect alignment. Really helps out when trying to sell the scope, too.
Lastly, scope ring base shimming. I know it’s done a lot with springer air rifles. Do you all shim the rear scope ring base on your PCP guns?

It's weird. On a precision powderburner, I would 100%, without a hesitation, lap the rings. It's the way I was taught.
On airguns, I looked around and didn't see people lapping their rings, so I haven't done it. I'm interested to see what other responses you get though.

I've never lapped the rings on my PCP's or PB's, probably should since all of my scopes are mid to low-end and use the included mounts. I also don't own what I consider precision rifles, either air or powder. I usually end up needing to shim the back rings on the PCP's, a couple of layers of aluminum from a coke can has me in business.

I do a lot of tedious little things when assembling a rifle...but lapping rings isn't one of them. Most rings come with a strip of friction tape applied and that's enough to avoid metal-to-metal contact that would otherwise mar the scope tube. But another things is I like to keep my scopes near their mechanical centers and the nature of air rifles means it's usually necessary to elevate the rear of the scope with shims, and on PCPs I'm not concerned with the scope slipping, so the reward vs. effort seems vanishingly small. I suppose if I were installing a $1000+ scope, I would give it some additional consideration.
