Shot 4 more targets this morning before the wind picked up. This one has a group of .88 and all within the 9 ring so should qualify me for expert.
I increased the hammer spring some to help tighten the groups. Next is to try some sorted pellets to see if that makes a difference.

Nice shooting. Sorted pellets will tighten up your groups for sure.

Way to go, Jason! I saw your first submission to the NUAH club.... WELCOME!
I think I’m going to start sorting pellets... I wonder what is more critical, weight or head/skirt size? I have a cheapie scale that I bought just for the purpose of weighing pellets but it’s a bit tedious and time consuming. I don’t have any way to check pellet sizes.

I went through and weighed half a tin of jsb 18.13 and half a tin of jsb 15.89 using a beam scale from reloading powder burners.
The 18.13 were pretty close and I sorted into 2 groups, light and heavy.
I did the same with the 15.89 but they seemed to be more variance. I should have sorted into 3 or 4 groups.
If there is not much wind tomorrow I will shoot them and see if I still get the occasional unexplained flyer. I will also shoot some groups directly from the tin as a comparison.
I ordered a "pelletgage" for sorting head size and will do a similar experiment when I receive it.

Problem is with weighing pellets, if the POI actually changes, then you need to resight your gun when you change groups to take advantage of that....

I found the best way to size pellets is with a decent bullet scale and the pellet gauge. The pellet gauge measures the head size. I have found in one tin of JSB 177 pellets heads that measured from 4.45 to 4.53.
Wait for a day with no wind, at 50 yards shoot 5 - 8 shot groups with the same head size. Try and keep your gun stable while testing. Sand bags or a front and rear rest both work. Once you find the head sizes your barrel likes best, sorted and weighted pellets will remove 90+% of the fliers.

Currently I have the gun sighted in for 50 yards using 15.89. When I shoot 100 I use 18.13 and hold over, currently second to last mil dot. So any POI shift will be noted on the first card and hopefully adjust the holdover accordingly. Based on my last target it looks like I could go 4 clicks to the right but will wait and see what the weight sorting shows.
I intend to shoot 18.13 at all distances once I get the 15.89 shot up. I have another gun that likes the 15.89s but I haven't shot anything other than the Veteran since I got it 3 weeks ago and probably not going to. put 2500 pellets down the pipe so far and this is by far the best shooting pellet gun I have ever shot.
