I have a friend that reloads, gets all Zen-like about his target shooting out at the range. I hear him over at the next station slowly chanting over and over, "I am the bullet". (What is the chance now that this phrase won't go through your head at least once while you are out there? ZERO!) He does the same thing when he fishes a plastic worm: "I am the worm" on every worm lift. I tried it and darn if it doesn't help me concentrate, visualize the worm and catch more fish! So it's worth a try...

Erlis, the Veteran is as it came out of the box except for hammer spring adjustments. I had it set to shoot Jsb 25.4's at about 890fps and according to the gauge (which should be fairly accurate since it is a Wika) the reg is set at 150bar. It'll get 40 shots as is if you fill to 250bar and 30 shots on a 220bar fill.

Trigger is very nice isn't it?

Erlis, that gun will be VERY quiet after you add a DonnyFl! No worries there!

Ok, I'm back from the range.

It is the first time I take the rifle to more than 20 yards so I was super excited to test this baby.

Yesterday I installed the Sumo suppressor. Here is a picture of the gun after I was able to install the suppressor:

I zeroed at 25 yards, first and then moved the target back to 50 yards and I was amazed with the precision. Yesterday when I was installing the suppressor I did a good clean on the barrel and today at the range I noticed that the first shoots (when I was zeroing) were a bit scatered, but after I shoot around 2 magazines, everything started changing.

This is a target at 50 yards, I didn't sort any pellets, these are .25 JSB Kings straight from the tin.

Then the sky started to deteriorate and I had time to move it to 100 yards but I just could do one group and I don't know but it looks terrible to me. Maybe the wind was starting to pick up or maybe I need way more practice for the 100 yards. This is how it looks my group at 100

ohh Almost forgot to report... when I came back from the range, I had an iguana on my backyard, I don't need to tell you what happened at 25 yards. First one I take down with the Vet, this rifle is sweet.

Thanks for the 50 and 100 targets. I got mine Saturday. Cleaned the barrel and mounted the shortest scope I have: a UTG 6x24-50. Way too big of a scope. Looks like a bear riding an armadillo. Your scope recommendation is appreciated. Anyway, got to sight it in and shoot it a little before church this morning. Now I know what you guys have been describing. Wow. Accurate as heck. Unlike my MRods where I have trepidation before every shot "POI changed?" Not with this one. Inspires confidence. I shot a 30 yard string without the chrony. Pretty impressive little gun. I get the feeling if it's not in the ten ring its not the guns fault. Either it is me, or a result of shooting from the tin rather than inspecting/sorting/weighing each. Obviously those 8's were fliers in a fine gun like this. Cant wait to shoot at 50 tomorrow morning when its cooler. (and that's a 194, not a 195. Can't subtract.)

it's a FFP and not everyone likes the FFP, I'm sold on it, for the price I think you get really good quality scope.

I grabbed a MTC Viper Connect SCB2 reticle, love the huge field of view for back yard pesting. And it is small and rugged enough not to break the Veteran Short's profile.

Rocco that is a very interesting scope. Quite a find. If I was hunting like I use to I would snatch it up. The field of view ought to make it easy to follow a squirrel as he limbs-out without having to come out of the scope. That alone has driven me to leave the .22 home in favor of high brass sixes the following squirrel hunt for WAY to many years! A man has to eat. I'm mostly going to be shooting paper, hopefully 50-100+ yards.

Erlis, I was looking at that one and the 6X24-50mm. I'm thinking these eyes are going to need 24X. How far do you shoot that 14X?

The same Athlon is what a use on my HM1000 in .22, it is a superb scope for a reasonable price. Even though it is FFP I personally like keeping mine set at 18x, that is the point the entire reticle fills the scope and you can enjoy the best of all worlds, zoom/bright image and a full reticle worth of holdover/under and windage points. Just my findings having used it for about 5 or 6 months.

P.S. I have not shot beyond 50 yards with the .22, however my HMx .25 has repeatedly knocked a 6" gong at 175 yards (different brand scope but same specs) hold over was 12mils.

Edit - the HMx wears a optisan evx 6-24x50 f1. Just to mention another good FFP scope

I use it mostly for hunting iguanas, and rarely I shoot past 50 yards, you can get closer and they are ok with that but lately they know what is going on and they are keeping the distance. Yesterday at the range I didn't have any problem sighting at 100 yrds, super clear image.

If you have the money for the Argos (6-24x50) go for it I think I saw it in FFP and SFP the later considerably cheaper. I was thinking myself getting one of those for the veteran because I can shoot longer distances. When I got the 14x, I got it for my TX200 and I also was looking into something I can shoot close range, so the 4-14 was perfect for that rifle. When I got the Veteran I just used my better scope on it.

Yesterday at the range I tested a 5.5-25x50 Aztec scope that was a dream, but super expensive. It's all a matter of balance and find the good tool for the job without expending a fortune...IMHO

Edit: Athlon has a 6-24x50 in SFP but is the Talos, not the Argos, for $210. I personally don't like that reticle, I prefer the Christmas tree I have in mine and I see in the Argos FFP

Thanks guys. The Athlon looks to be the one for what I'm going to do with it. Target from this morning early, 50 yards, shooting straight out of the tin. WOW. This gun is everything you guys said it is. It will shoot into the ten ring every time if your pellets all want to go into the ten ring. I ordered a pellet gauge last night. Hope to eliminate those flyers.

Ray, do you know the fps you are getting with those JSB Kings? Yesterday mine was shooting an average of 885 fps. Just curious on how it come from factory, Justin mentioned to me that mine has the hammer spring adjusted.

It came (at least the one you own) from the factory shooting about 930fps with Kings. The chrony printout and test target from Talon Tunes are on that yellow piece of paper

So now it's shooting a bit slow, will that help with the shot count? I'm happy as it's (even affraid of changing anything) Why did you changed it?

I changed it because it came to me from the original owner shooting the 34gr Jsb's at 870fps and I didn't need that much power and wanted to shoot the 25.4 Jsb's. As it was set I'm guessing the 25.4's would have been around 970fps (I never actually chronied it before backing off the power). Plenty of power on tap there if you need it and with no reg adjustment! Sweet guns.
