BB gun adult options..

Hello, I suspect there isn't a good answer to this question but please indulge a newbie.

I'm a middle aged guy who recently picked up a Daisy Red Ryder because I had one as a kid and because my girlfriend was a US Army sharpshooter in the Gulf War.  Lots of fun plinking and target shooting.

Except for a rare opportunity to drive 25 miles to the indoor range, our options are limited to her back yard which isn't that big, and my standard one-car garage.  The RR is lots of fun but it would be more fun I think to shoot with a BB gun that was more accurate.  I considered the 499B but it's a single shot and I like the RR because I don't have to load one BB at a time.

I also considered the 880 but I've read reports that the RR is actually more accurate in terms of BB's (I'm aware that pellets in the 880 would be more accurate that BB's in the RR).

Any suggestions for a more accurate BB rifle than the RR that's not a single shot?

Hi Bryan.  Take a look at the Mosin Nagant in BB.  It's super fun to shoot and mine is a little more accurate than the Red Ryder.

No problem... I've been building my collection for years.  Yes, That's it.  It's an expensive gun but I love it.  I think I bought mine from BudK as it was a little cheaper than PA at the time.

Might sound silly, why not try a decent little pellet gun? They are much much more accurate then the BB. There so many to choose from that will pop paint balls all day long at the ranges you are talking. For around my house I like pump guns because I can easily adjust the power, I have a 1322 that is a real shooter and fun to shoot. It was suggested to me to try a 880, and it is accurate and really fun. (though it can be a pain to load.) But it is a gun that wont break the bank that you can hit something with.

Or look into the Gamo Swarm Maxxim.  It's a pellet repeater.  A bit more powerful than what you're looking for but it has a fully shrouded barrel so it is pretty quiet.

If considering a pellet rifle the Crosman 1077 makes for a decent backyard plinker. Looks like a 10-22, uses CO2, takes a rotary magazine, and has a rifled barrel and usually sells for around $70.00

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

We had an opportunity to try the Swarm Maxim at the indoor range.  Didn't enjoy it.  Too heavy and the break barrel was too difficult to break.

The 880 is single shot as far as pellets are concerned.  If single shot was something I could live with I would choose the Daisy 499B, since accurate BB's is what I'm gunning for (pun intended)

Check out the Daisy 74...co2 semi auto...LOP not to bad....can be modded and fun little shooter...good luck

Why not just buy the Cheif AJ adult sized stock for these red Ryder's ?

I’ve never had any of these products. But my understanding is people put the Avanti 499 shot tube/barrel into a slicked up daisy model 25. Or something like that.

I think the model 25 is the usual answer to the adult B.B. gun question.

Or maybe the Umarex Morph?

I did some bb gun accuracy tests a while ago, and a new model 25 and old Crosman Saddle Pal were two repeaters with 499 class accuracy.

    I have a new Crosman 76. Well, maybe a year and a half old. I had done some testing with BB's, and wasn't impressed, and had been shooting pellets ever since. Just today out of the blue, I decided to retest Daisy pellets in that 760. Don't know why, but I shot a heck of a 5 shot group at 7 yards. I checked after each shot, and got three into a nice tight cloverleaf. Then shot two more, and the cloverleaf hole didn't get any larger. Easily a small enough group for rat head shots off a rest at 7 yards.

    I'll try this again the next time I shoot, but I never thought the 760 could do it. Pick up one at WM for from $25 to maybe $35 and don't get the one with the tiny 4x15 scope, as it's just junk. I have a decent 4x32 AO scope on mine, and it's a good match for the 760. The 760 has a built in BB magazine, and a 5 round pellet magazine should you try pellets.

Oh...I see...the single shot issue, I guess.
I recommend a little daisy 953 target shooter and pellets,  if you can find one. It has a "magazine".

I also recomend the 880. It is probably the best value in airgunning you can get locally.  Easy to pump, powerful if needed and accurate.  Pellets are a big improvement over BBs in accuracy and less chance of ricochet.

I find that BBs bounce back at me, well maybe that's fair, but still annoying.

The 880 is a fun pumper to have. Yes it's a single shot but with pellets it's an accurate little pumper. Plenty of CO2 guns out there as well that would fit your style. I myself not a big fan of having my ammo bounce back at me. Good Luck.

Nothing wrong with Crosman if you want to go that route. Plenty of inexpensive guns to choose from. Parts are easy to get, plenty of mod parts out there if you like to tinker. Most are accurate right out of the box and with practice they are very fun to shoot.  It just depends on what you are looking for and how much of your wallet you want to let go of.
