They Came For Dinner.... ! But Instead They Took a.... Dirt Nap !

I shot these 2 chippers this evening.    I had finished the garage project, that I was working on and decided to do a little shooting in the backyard with my Crosman 2100.  I grabbed a tin of Crosman 7.4gr 177cal pointed pellets and walked around my garage to the backyard with a couple of tennis balls to shoot at. As I rounded the corner of my garage I spotted 2 chipmunks out on my compost/leaf/grass/log/brush-pile & shooting berm at the edge of the backyard, next to the forest. I stepped back 3 paces, dropped the tennis balls and loaded the rifle. I pumped the rifle to 10 pumps and moved forward to the edge of the garage to take a look and see if they were still there.  YESSSSS....They were still there !  They were both by my Birchwood-Casey spinner that I have set up out there.   I took a standing shot with my off-hand palm resting on the edge of my garage and the rifle resting in the Vee formed between my hand and thumb.  I hit the 1st chipper smack in the head.  I then backed up and reloaded and re-pumped up the rifle, 10 times. I stepped back into my former shooting position and spotted the 2nd chipper next to the white post of my bird house. I think he was trying to hide from danger comming out of the forest but he was in full view of me, at the garage corner and I took a second shot and hit this one in the upper chest area.  This makes 4 chippers today. Two in the morning with my 1377 pistols and two this evening with my 2100.  I paced the distance out to where the chippers were and the 1st one was taken at 34 yards and the second was taken at 35 yards.    I was on a Roll Today.....folks !

Tom, Woo Hoo! Your are on a roll! Those are great shots standing at those distances on such tiny targets! I’d hate to see you with a PCP in your expert hands....it would probably bore you! Keep on them chippers!

Randall......I'll let you in on my little secret..(I have never held or shot a PCP rifle.    )     I am retired & living on social security.  PCP's (And Related Equipment) are way too expensive for me to even think about getting.     I'm lucky that I am not forced to hunt with a slingshot and rocks...Poor Boy style.        I'll be sure to keep my eye out for the chippers, especially  after what happened today.  You can bet on that !

Bill...I don't try to eradicate them but I don't like being over run with them either.  I don't want them burrowing under the house and such.
I keep their numbers down to a manageable level.  I shoot a few after the 1st litter is born in the spring.  Then there are not as many of them to do structural damage and I tend to leave them alone.

Tom, I bet YOU would still nail them chippers with a slingshot and rocks! PCP’s are getting a lot more affordable as are the hand pumps...hopefully one day I’ll read a post with you, a sleeping pill, and a PCP .
