PRod First Impressions

Just received my PRod from Crosman today all in all I am very pleased. It came with app 1000 psi air which seems standard I think. Pumped it up with a Chinese pump to app 2900. Not too hard I am guessing app 60 pumps or so. Shooting Crosman 14.3 cheapies just to test. I think they call them Destroyer pellets. It seems to like app 2400-1800. 633-646 fps for 20 shots equaling app 13 fpe out of the box tune. I may tweek it up a bit that remains to be seen. Quieter than I anticipated that may be from shooting at only 13 fpe at this time. A slight ping but not too bad either. I wonder if that becomes more apparent with a harder hitting tune idk. May go with a Rocker1 or a Donny Tanto unsure at the moment. Only complaint is that it takes more of a push to load the pellet in to shoot. I think that may be normal but more than I expected. Loading the pellet is louder than shooting it imo.
Next I need to mount the Bugbuster and test pellets. Shoutout to "TWEETER" for sending me some JSB 18.1's to test.
Now I just hope I got a good barrel I guess.

Congratulations Bob,i am pretty sure barrel issues are fixed by Crosman,mine too was a bit hard to load brand new,now is much better,if tuned,the Prod becomes a bit loud,in that case an LDC is a good idea.Enjoy this little thing.

I got one a couple weeks ago. I sold my awesome pp700 to get it. My honest first impression was gracious. What have I done. Lol. One of the worst triggers I've ever felt and the pellet loading was very rough. Mine was also pretty loud but I expected that. Fortunately for me most of my fun comes from making it perform. It's getting much better and growing on me now. I was very happy to see the barrel is not pellet picky! Just waiting on my back ordered Huma now.

Congratulations, you will have a great time with it! And a TON of mods available.

The nice thing about (most) Prods, is they will shoot almost anything well! And some EXCELLENT! Mine is quite happy with Crosman Domes OR HP. I personally don't care for the destroyers in a PCP, I shoot them in break barrels.  If using JSB 15.89, I can shoot a dime for three magazines at 25 yards!

You should be getting more shots though at the speed you mention. And you are correct, it settles between 2600-1400psi (possibly with my mods). But mine is bottled and I do over 80 shots @ ~700fps with 14.3-15.8gr pellets. I have a Hill moderator on mine, and it is SUPER quiet!

Still testing pellets but definitely have some winners. HN FTT 5.54, HN Field Target Trophy Power-coppers are definitely accurate. Nothing seems too bad either. The bolt feels much better when loading pellets now too. I am a little puzzled why I am not getting more shots per fill. Not terribly upset or anything. It seems if I am so ineffiicient that I would be wasting air and that would make it louder and I am very pleased with how quiet it is already. Ordered a DonnyFL Tanto. Ordered it at 7am one morning and had a response in less than 1/2 hr later. I am looking at replacing the stock but unsure which way to go. So far either the RAI with a folding stock or Lee's custom stock that collapses. I for get his name here or what he calls his stock. I would get his stock for sure but I want to use medium rings with my BugBuster and I see it may be difficult to mount that with his stock. I welcome any opinions regarding stocks.

Unless you've only been shooting high end AG, that's quite uncharacteristic of the PRod. Most owners think the triggers are really nice and I don't hear too many complaints about cycling. I'm guessing that you're either used to much higher quality component, or your PRod is flawed.

I agree,Prod trigger are not bad at all,i would check adjustement screws,most tend to loose and needs a drop of threads locker.

I am perfectly happy with the trigger. I may tweek it some down the road but no complaints here. My first thought also was the previous poster was more use to more high end "match" triggers etc.

I am a bit spoiled on triggers but it was honestly terrible. After polishing every thing out and shimming the 1/4" of side to side trigger wobble it really wasn't any better than my worked over 2240 trigger.
Now it has an E-trigger and is the best trigger I've ever shot.
I'm not saying they can't be made to be decent,  I was just expecting better from what I've read.

For sure is not a match trigger  My Prod is adjusted single stage with partial sear desengagement and works great for my needs (pesting) ,i agree polishing the parts don't help much,they are syntered metal and you can't obtain a really smooth surface unfortunately.

I really am starting to like it though. Here is an 8 shot group at 70 yards this morning in a slight wind. The two shots on left are from the wind stopping. I was shooting out he window resting off the sill.

You need to be reconditioned by having yourself spend a couple of hours shooting a Discovery with a stock trigger. After that, you'll be significantly less picky with just about any trigger on the market. LOL

To me it's design more than material. It's the way the two sears drag across one another in the first stage that kills me. I've gotten them to a mirror polish and it still just shouldn't feel that way. I also made mine more of a single stage to help get rid of it.
