Just a word of caution. I bought one of these on sale last year for $764.79 and it had an air leak in the regulator right out of the box. I returned it, which was fairly simple through Amazon and had them send me another. The second one was silly accurate but had an air leak in the regulator. I called BSA directly and they said to send it to them for warranty repair but doing so with a brand new gun seemed silly based on how easy it was to return the other through Amazon so I returned the second gun to Amazon; hoping to get a replacement but the second time they would only refund my money and would not give me an option to get a replacement.

Hopefully, no one else will run into this problem and as accurate as these two guns were I tempted to buy another; and cross my fingers but I don't have any more money left this month for shooting products

$ 917.60 this morning.  It sure makes me wonder how they settle on a price on these things...

The only thing that would make sense to me it that if something is not selling, or no one is viewing, they start dropping the price.  It seems after I bought the R-10 the price jumped to $690 ish.  Then the next day up to $900.  Who knows?  If I hadn't bought it would the price have jumped to $690 regardless?

This also happened the other day when I was looking for a 5000 psi gauge.  I found 5 for $12.41 each from Amazon and not a third party seller an bought two.  They were all stainless steel wetted parts and case and liquid filled.  So I went back to buy one more to replace a gauge that is missing the liquid stopper.  The gauges had jumped to $86.95. 

Another pattern I have noticed on Amazon is that if you put something in your save items, it may go down a couple bucks over the next couple of days and then shoot up in price.

So I guess you can use these patterns to your advantage to try to get the best price.

There have been discussions on this.  Amazon, Midway, Walmart and a few others use specific programming so that when the sale item starts selling and gets a lot of views, the price automatically goes up gradually. 

It seems that Walmart has stopped doing this to an extend, or not as bad as they used to.  It appears Walmarts' programming has changed to allow for many units to be sold before they price goes up, whereas Amazon is still very aggressive and you have a small window to get in on the low price before a few units get sold and the programming raises the price.

I personally hate these price fluctuations, or price manipulation as I call it.  I wish they would just publish a date when the sale is over like in the old days.  What they do today is all geared towards maximizing their profits, but it just p****es people off, not just me

Dell has also been doing this for years in their Outlet store where you can purchase slightly used and returned or blemished PC's that are practically new at discounted prices.  One day I am clicking on this tower I was really interested in.  After clicking on it a few times and contemplating whether I should go for it or not, I noticed the price started going up.  So then I found another similar system and the same thing happened after 30 min. and clicking on it a few times.  Its price started going up too.  The more views, the more it went up.  I also had a PC in my Cart another time.  I removed it 15min. later, and when it was available again, the price was automatically $100 more.  I hate that &^^&.

I picked up the R-10 from the UPS Store today and just unboxed it.  In the back of my mind I was thinking i hope this is new and not a return. 

It's a return. 

Since I was prepared I was not that disappointed.  I did start a chat with Amazon and told them the rifle was a return and I don't know what's been done to it.  The rep initially wanted me to return this one and order another one.  I said that's unacceptable as the price has gone up.  He then recommended I go through the return process but to select replacement instead of refund, which I did after he said he would put notes in my account to ensure I received a new replacement. 

We will see what happens.  I am not returning the first rifle till I see the replacement.  My gut feeling tells me it will also be a return.     I'll either request a third rifle or pick the best of the two.

What would you do in this situation?

My initial impressions of the rifle is that it's more compact than it looks in the pictures except for the long shroud.  I am pleasantly surprised, honestly.  The bottle is smaller than I thought and there was about 150 bar of air in the rifle.  The receiver sits lower in the stock than my Scorpion SE.  The shroud looks like it's 8 or 9 inches longer than the barrel.  I'm sure there is a shorter shroud from XTX.  How do I know if I have the flaking probe?  XTX has replacement stainless ones along with a Huma regulator.

Too bad about the unexpected "return" there, especially as that wasn't supposed to happen. (I bought mine knowing it was used and it took me 6 months to get it all ironed out--my schedule, not the rifle!)

But, yes, the shroud is longer than the barrel. I've figured there is about 7.5" of space between the end of the barrel and the inside of the end of the shroud (I was reconfiguring my shroud innards), so probably 8" shorter without the shroud. Then add your favorite LDC

The black wrap is ok.  I'll like it even more as long as it doesn't separate.  From what I understand, the stock is wood and is somehow covered in the black wrap.  I have not heard that it is or isn't possible but I'm a little bit a worry wart.

Walnut would have been prettier but I'd be apprehensive about shooting because of worry of scratching it.  I sell guns I don't shoot.  I have seen laminate versions of the stock but I imagine that would be the heaviest version.  Maybe the black wrap is the lightest?  I have no idea.

I put 5 10.5 grain Crosman Premiers from the brown box over the chronograph.  Velocities started at 835 and the 4th and 5th shot was 890 fps.  It was also very quiet.  That's quiet enough for me.   

I'll run it through it's paces this weekend and find it's favorite pellet.

The replacement rifle should be delivered Monday.  Who knows, if I like them enough I may keep both and configure them differently.  I'd like to have a Piledriver gun or HMAir type of bullet shooting rifle.  I did buy the Scorpion 1200 SE for that role but I could swap in a 15" barrel and make a carbine out of it.  So many options!   It all depends on what is more accurate in the roles I have designs for.
 

I did read recently where an Amazon rifle was leaking and came with a gunked up green regulator.  The OP commented that his rifle must have been a return for the leaking issue.  I don't remember if it was here or another forum.

David,  was yours the R-10 that had the really crusty regulator or was it another member?  I remember commenting on that thread.  I'm probably going to order the shorter shroud, stainless bold probe and regulator from XTX anyway.  I don't remember the details but the consensus was the stock regulator was a bad design.

Yes (probably). I opened it up for a leaky inlet valve and decided I should have a look at the regulator too. I'm glad I did, as it was seized. The inlet valve had some greenish gummy stuff on it and the rifle seemed to have a lot of some sort of oil in general, but it cleaned up well enough. I didn't get into the valve and hammer parts. That may come eventually. I haven't opened it for a follow up exam, but it seems to be shooting just fine--the bodies keep stacking up. (I hand pump, so I probably should double check, but I did put it together with a fine film of lubricant on everything.)

And the wrap seems to be holding up just fine. I too want to avoid scratches even on this, so mine wears a rather inelegant section of sock where it is likely to contact my rather crude shooting stick, which is just a piece of light conduit that is prone to leaving marks behind.

I bought a r-10 from a member about a year ago. Shot fine, but opened it up to take a peek. Everything was green and a little crusty. Cleaned and replaced o-rings, since I was already in there. Adjusted regulator polished a few parts. Awesome gun, shoots lights out. You'll love it and not hard to work on. Most issues I read up on were over blown. Good luck and have fun. Yeah I hear you.  It's easy for us to tell actually, having unboxed so many over the years.

I could see if it came from P/A.  They usually open them and inspect them, but not Amazon.  Noone at Amazon has any business opening it or unwrapping it for any reason.  I wonder why someone returned it.  I would shoot it for groups to see if there is anything wrong with it.  If it's a tack driver I would keep it if I were in your shoes, unless I didn't like the stock or found handling marks/scratches.
