Never owned (or cared to own) one of those HWs that used injected ether to boost pellet velocity via "deliberate dieseling". My understanding is that the thick heads of the heavy H&N Barracuda pellet was a solution to other pellets that could have their heads "blown off" with the dieseling.

 8)Back when 750 to 800 was a powerful airgun 1000fps was crazy fast for the day. That's what the EL 35 Barracuda was said to achieve using ether. Today, I would say it is a unique gun for collectors. Not particularly practical for normal use. Would be interesting to see what they used for seals considering most German guns of that era had self destructing seals, if they weren't leather that is.

Didn't most of these self destruct? Would not think there are too many left in working condition.

I have several Mendozas (made in Mexico) and they have an oil hole (like a Daisy BB rifle). Some people believe that is for intentional dieseling. I have not seen anything in Mendoza literature or in the owners manuals that say that. The owners manuals say two or three drops of silicone based oil every 1000 shots and a little bottle of that oil comes with the guns. FYI stuff:  The Mendozas have an indent around the front end of the piston with a felt ring in it to absorb the oil and lube the inside of the receiver. The one Mendoza I rebuilt I left the felt ring out. There's also a red spot of paint on the piston that shows thru the oil hole when the rifle is cocked to show it's cocked. The TF M12 and M8, also made by Mendoza, don't have the oil hole. But the Mendoza made Crosman RM577 and 377 I have do have the oil hole and red dot but I don't know if they have the felt oiler.

Sorry, to much information. I just find the ether gun and the myth about Mendozas interesting

I think I might get sleepy shooting the ether injection gun.
