Need some advice for a Hatsan .25 rifle..

Pertaining to these models, Striker, 1000x, 1000s, Edge, 85, 87.  I'm itching to get a .25 now especially since I can score most of these models on sale or refurbished for roughly $150 or less.  I don't know a lot about all the Hatsans Models and which ones are basically the same but with different Stock and Muzzle device configurations. I'm wondering if anyone of you guys could give me a recommendation on which one usually has the better barrels and consistent performance.  From what I've gathered the Striker,Edge,1000x,1000s are the same gun. But I'm not 100%.  I know the 85 and 87 have the Quatro trigger. Do the 85 and 87 have a bigger compression tube thus more power. I like the lighter weight models like the Striker,Edge,1000x and s models though.  I don't want to use it for anything in particular. I just want one. Maybe some up close hunting. My eyesight isn't as good as it use to be so im not the greatest at making eyeball/head shots on the tree rats and yard bunnies anymore. I could hit them in the @@@ with one of these and still probably drop them in there tracks.  Any help is greatly appreciated

Hi Cliff !        I have three Hatsan Rifles in 25 Cal.  A 25 Cal. Vortex Edge - A Camo Vortex 25 Cal. 85 Sniper ( Two barrels for this one a 117 Cal Barrel and a 25 Cal barrel) - A 25 Cal. 85 Sniper Spring Piston. Of the three I like the Edge the best.  The 85 Snipers have a buzz to them when they are shot. The Spring Gun is the hardest to shoot accurately, with the additional rotational torque of the spring expanding but it is the hardest shooter. The edge does not have the Buzz the 85 Snipers have and is the easiest to learn to shoot accurately.  You can get a Vortex Edge in 25 Cal. at Pyramid Air or Air Gun Depot for around $99.   AGD has them on sale right now in one of their Lightning Deals. Both PA and AGD have a 10% discount for GTA members.  Pictured Below are My Hatsan Rifles.  In the picture with three rifles in it, the top two are 25 Cal and the bottom is 177 Cal. Yep, the Edge/Striker/1000 are all the same action, just different stocks and badging. They also have the same trigger as the VMX .20 you just got as the VMX is the same action as those 3 with a .20 caliber barrel.
Like Tom said, the springers take a little more practice to shoot well vs the Vortex piston versions because of spring torque, but they also shoot a hair faster fps wise as all my spring versions shoot 8-10 fps faster than my Vortex ones.

If you don't mind a refurb, go to HatsanUSA and keep an eye out because when they have them, you can get an Edge Vortex refurb for $49.99 plus $5 shipping when they have them. The spring versions are $10 less at $39.99 if you want a springer.

  I REALLY wanted a Striker in .25 cal, but in two tries could not get one that was any good. Both had lousy barrels, as well as other production problems that could not be fixed. As much as I would like to say "order a Striker, fix the trigger, and go," I just can't. The Striker is light, powerful, and easy to handle, but if you have a problem like I did Hatsan USA kinda has a "what do you expect for so little money" attitude, at least that was my Striker .25 experience. If you can find a used one for sale that you can verify shoots accurately, that's a different story. But if you want to buy new, I suggest the Mod 95 in wood. Yeah, it's heavier and longer, but build quality is better and it comes equipped with the Quattro trigger, which can be very nice. I'd shy away from the 85 (which is the same action as a Mod 95, it just rides in a synthetic stock), as both of mine developed cracks in the stock in the trigger "pocket." Again this is just my experience, maybe I just have lousy luck. My Striker .25 saga ended with Hatsan (grudgingly) sending me a refurbed (poorly) Mod 95, which I was able to get shooting really well (hard AND accurate) with some work. Best of luck with whatever you decide!

I say skip all the lower powered and get yourself a 135 in .25 cal . It will shoot a lot flatter with the speed .32 ft/lbs from the box. Stay away from the vortex as there are still issues with leakage . A good lube tune and the 135 really shines .

 I go one farther,just skip the break barrels and plunge into the dark side and you will be much happier but somewhat broke.

You had to go there!.....cant stop looking at the 135 now.  Just didnt want to lug around a howitzer!  What about .30 cal.  Seems like its more accurate from what ive been seeing on youtube videos.

I went there myself and never gonna look back.i just wasn't happy with what the break barrels could do for what I wanted them to do.believe me I tried and I wasn't happy until I shot my first pcp rifle.i hunt with my rifles and accurate shots were needed to make clean kills...good luck and see ya on the dark side.

I've read lots of good stories along with the bad, but you can pick any Gate on GTA and read those same stories, not just the Turkish Gate. There are a few exceptions, but for the most part, pick any brand, any model, from the inexpensive stuff to the top of the line seriously expensive ones and someone, somewhere has gotten a bad rifle. It's the chance you take buying pretty much anything...there's always the chance you're gonna get a bad one no matter what it is you're buying.

I'm one of the lucky ones that so far hasn't gotten a bad rifle from Hatsan, whether it's my Hatsan branded rifles or the 8 Webleys I also own. If you get a bad one, you send it back to whatever company you bought it from and either get a refund or get a replacement and try again.

Just my usual lame opinion, but you really have nothing to lose but time if you have to send something back. Most online sites give you 30 days to return an item, so just shoot the daylights out of it for 2 weeks or so and see what happens. If you got a bad one, you still have 2 weeks to get an RMA number and send it back. If you got a good one, you just spent 2 weeks getting it settled in.

Do not buy an airgun just because it is cheap or you can get a great deal on one.....want to buy a bridge for real cheap?
If you know what you are doing, you can get some good deal in the refurbished section.  .25 and .30 pellets are MUCH more expensive.
They also weight a fair bit more, so you need a bigger powerplant to push them.
I'm recommend a .22 Hatsan 95 if you can get a good referb.

So true Steve. Recently on the German Gate the well respected tuner Scott/Motorhead did a "post mortem" on a brand new $400 Weihrauch rifle that was sent to him directly from the retailer to be tuned.

He noted a laundry list of problems from poor machining to a damaged seal right out of the box. When you spend the $$ for a brand new Benz you don't expect that it will need a tuneup right of the showroom floor.

I have several Hatsan/Webley rifles and only two had to be sent back for refund or replacement.
