Rad's Airgun Journey from the bottom up

Hello everyone, just getting onto this and thought I'd share my  progress. I've had my crosman for over a year now and purchased the umarex fuel maybe 4 months after that. (3,000+ shots through crosman and 2000+ fuel) Now I'm interested in pcps, a marauder field and target is my little obsession. I want to be worthy of making such a purchase and commitment, so I thought I'd master the basics. Currently searching for the best pellet in my 2100. Trying to push it to the limit. I'm pretty impressed so far very much. I love it and plan on keeping it forever. Here are my results. Looking forward to learning all I can. Umarex fuel seems to like the Baracuda match, but I will get back to that when i'm finished with this complete joy of a rifle. 🤯 let me know how I'm doing 🤷‍♂️ Shooting off a tripod with a sandbag on top as rest. Can be a little shakey, I guess. Pics below

Hunter Extreme!! Who would of thought!?  The crosman premier heavies are there in the middle. They opened up to 2 inches as you can see there. I won't keep them out of the runnings, as I noticed pellets have their good and bad days. Which leads me to a question, shoukd I cancel out a tin due to a flyer here and there? For example the Rws Supermag would have been great if it wasn't for that left flyer.I was really hopeful for the field target trophies, they opened up to 2 inches as well. I'll try the copper version of those at a later date. I usually like to group in about 11-12 shots to get a good confirmation. Is that a good process?

Love your rig Wayne!! I have some JSB exact 8.4 grain coming on Tuesday as well as H&N sniper medium 8.5. we will see what those can do at 25yds.

  A favorite .177 pellet is the H&N 9 1/4 gr hollow point.  Their 5.5 gr tin pellet is surprisingly good in some guns.

What's up ,Terry!?  I understand that lighter pellets are for more velocity. I have some Baracuda Green's 6.4 grain and they do horrible in both my crosman and umarex fuel. I find I get just that much better results with a med to heavy pellet.

I got some just to experiment with.  They are pretty accurate at 740 fps in my Crosman 187.  Good in my Mark II and 1377 pistols.

 Also have great results with Air Arms Field Heavy .177 Cal, 4.52mm, 10.34 Grains, Domed.
 I am awaiting some on back order from Pyramid they must be popular

I'm surprised that they did better then the Baracuda Match and crosman heavies. A little pricey about 15 dollars for 400. They are definitely standing out from the rest of the pack here. If they continue to perform well they well be packed away with the crosman in its case along with the crosman premier lights. But we are not done testing yet

Yes I've been eyeing those, as well. If I don't find a true winner those are up next. Trying to stay 1 inch or 1 1/2, if not you are out.

Just some more paper shots for you, because who doesn't like looking at paper targets🤷‍♂️. Tips are always welcome. I'm trying to figure this all out. Really feeling these JSB Exact's and I like the H&N Sniiper's! A little windy today not too bad. Here is what we got. On the search for the ultimate 2100 pellet....

This my zero for now.  But hey I think we got there with the last group!!! Crosman premier unsorted. I'm in the process of sorting a box now to see if there is a difference. Also was thinking about the barrel stabilizer mode. But I think it's shooting ok as is. I have been shooting unsorted cans and boxes thusfar. We will see.  Do you guys think it's worth stabilizing the barrel??? I here if you do there is the possibility of it remaining lose. I did notice a slight twist especially after I stalking the magnio TKO modification. But look how it just shot!!! Going to sort and try other pellets, for now. I was wondering should I remove my moderator when oilling my crosman 2100??? I don't want to oil up my modification and I don't want to constantly remove , as well. Strip a screw or somethjing !!!!

You mention the rig is a little shaky, and yeah, 24 and 30 yards will show that in a hurry, but I couldn't tell you if a 2100 needs much work to do better. However, that last group is very nice! You said you've had the Crosman over a year. Did you shoot much before that?

Yes I definitely noticed a slight turn. I kinda toqued the front barrel clamp a bit and gave the front screw a 1/4 turn. It seems good today. Maybe it's a mix of the bsllistol and the pellgun oil, or the beautiful TKO addition.  I guess I'll ride it out and if it becomes a real issue I'll go ah3wd and stabilize the barrel. I'm more concerned about gunkiing up my mod. 74 decibels I just love it. And now it's pretty dead on. See for yourself. I'm pretty proud. The goal is to keep it this way. Next I'll move on to my break barrel, but not before enjoying this trip. I don't want to remove the muzzle Everytime I want to oil up. I'll try to be easy with the oil. I know I'll need some eventually the wsybik shooting.  This is my first year in, yes sir. I have shot but not consistently and involved as of late.  Thanks for the attention. 🙏🏼 Where did that last group come from!! Easily my best group yet!👍🏼 I think the sorted bunch should help.

I would venture to say you must have fixed something that was throwing the shots so much--that was too big a change to chalk it up to practice. Positively encouraging to know it can be done, I'm sure!

When you start in with the springer you might feel like you've gone backwards. It took me a while to be able to shoot decent groups with my CFX, which was my first air rifle--Those first couple of years, I wouldn't even dared shoot a squirrel at 30 yards because I wasn't sure I'd even hit it, let alone kill it properly. My 20 yard groups that first year are embarrassing to look at. Now eight years later, 35 or 40 yards? Sure thing....

The funny thing is, switching to a PCP last year wasn't easy. At first my groups were nominally the same or worse than what I could get with the CFX, but some practice and finding the right pellet solved that problem--that R10 is a killer

I noticed a bit later on after installing my TKO the barrel kinds twisted to the right. I just tightened the screws and it seems to be working for now. I know that is the first time I have made a group like that at 24yds until today with this rifle. If I can do this consistently, I'd be very ples3ed and eager to take it out further. I'm sure we can get it laser point at 25 and touching up 40 real nice. But I'm ok and want to jump on this break barrel and see what I can do. It's pretty powerful I can tell you that!!

I'm looking forward to a regulated marauder or the Diana outlaw. I like them  both for different rewsons, but would prefer the quiet  of the two.  But, m.working my way up to it.
 
I'try to set tome aside weighing and sorting my pellets now. Can’t wait to see how those do. I think it’s safe to say these crosman premiers are a good match for my barrel. So we will sort them and see how each class performs.  will soon see if all the effort is worth it. You all see what I have pretty much so far⬆️

I enjoy trying out different pellets as well. I forgot to mention that I use the Caldwell Deadshot biPod now. Way better than my bar stool. Yup, and thats what I got so far.  Just out here trying to make 1/2 groups all day from everywhere
