Bob's .30 cal pellets testing,......with pictures.

I had a little window to do a bit of shooting today,
I got my target at 45 yards and shot one mag of each 60gr and 63gs out of my 2 Storm .30s

firat of all I wanted to take pictures of the pellets to show that they are by no means perfectly casted so actual groups have to be taken with a bit of leeway.

The 60 gr








The 63gr,...they look much different, much more shiny and less imperfections.








As I mentioned before the Pellets fit the Evanix magazines and the guns are much more quite then shooting the JSB pellets.


Here are the groups



6 pretty tight and one big flyer from the 85 FPE Storm with the 60 gr



5 OK and 2 crazy flyers high and low from the 85 FPE Storm and the 63gr



6 pretty good and one flyer from the 100 FPE Storm and the 60gr



6 really good and one not to bad flyer from the 100FPE Storm and 63gr





As I mentioned before I will definitely buy me one of these molds because after shooting a few non perfect pellets I can see a strong chance that if casted nicely they could definitely be a great hunting pellet.

What's the distance to target on those groups? Can you measure the maun groupins? They look pretty good.

45 yards, ....I will put a tape mesure to the groups tomorrow.

Thanks. It looks like they need speed. It would be interesting to see them at around 900 and also 950 fps.

Manny, try getting a little more heat into the molds. I like to heat mine to 400F or a little higher on a hot plate before casting.   It will fill out better, and give a better color to the bullets as well.

1 or 2 percent of tin will make a world of difference!

Not my casting Knife, those pellets where a sample gift from Keith to see if the mould was gonna be a valuable option for the Storm

In the Rainstorm at least.... it looks like the higher velocity (more FPE) is a better match for these heavy pellets.... not surprising, really.... It would be interesting to know what the velocity is with them....

One of these days I'll bust the Chrono out, but I can tell you those heavy pellets hit super hard, several times I had to prop up the heavy steel plate behind the target because they knocked it down and the plate was leaning at a pretty good angle against the target

Manny, considering there is only one flyer per group, I would think about a small issue in one of the chambers of the mag.

I was having a similar issue, and found the spring that holds the pellets in was marking the pellets. I pulled the spring and stretched it a bit, and took one turn out of the mainspring of the mag. The issue went away instantly! 

I would like to find a thin "O" ring to replace the spring around the mag. Much like the one in the Diana Outlaw.

Your theory has merits,.....but

I was using 2 guns with 2 different mags, also the same mags shoot rugged holes with both JSB 45gr and JSB 50gr

One thing about casting one's own pellets is that one can control the pellet hardness. In the Barracuda thread I lament that the .30 Barracudas aren't as hard as the .25 Barracudas. A pellet mold like this might let me make them just like I want...

Those groups aren't anything special, ...but, they show potential, and I truly believe that with some experimenting and learning with the mould/casting could really develop a connection with pellet and gun.

Would love to play with one in .25.
I guess I should have gone with a .30, but was worried about the cost of ammo.

Designed, yes, basically this mould scaled down.... Whether it is made or not depends on the success of this mould.... The three HB weighs would be 34, 36 and 38 gr....

Those are great weights for the .25
