Take a look at the Daisy 853 here. Exactly what you are wanting.http://thecmp.org/cmp_sales/rifle_sales/air-rifles/sporter-air-rifles/
Any individual can get an 853 from CMP for the $105 S&H $14.95 per rifle, you do not need to be in a club like their other guns...Now... what about the Feinwerkbau FWB 600/602 variants that are on Gun Broker right now?Hey, remember... you asked! Yes, I am watching myself.Probably be paying a lot more for the subsequent divorce though...
I have an 853 with a small cheap scope and it is so accurate it’s silly. Trigger is ruff but that’s an easy fix.Knowing you like American wood and steel what about co2? Old Crosman 180 or 160 with some scope groves or mounts and good to go. My 180 is super accurate and loves the cheap pellets.
Don’t get me wrong, the 853 trigger isn’t bad it is just heavy. The rifle was made to get kids into target shooting and this does it safely. Do a a search and you will find a list of parts to order from Daisy to make it nice and light.I didn’t get mine from the cmp. I found it locally on Craig’s List. Just order one f ok the cmp. You won’t be disappointed.
You said that you were tired of the pumpers for target practice. How many pumps are you using ? I only use 3 pumps for target shooting & plinking.
Not much there in vintage US ssp’s. But, you might look at some small, weak, but accurate springers (one easy pump). The Marksman biathlon trainer (model 1790) might be a good fit.
Plus one on Steve's last post. I have a 392, it is about 3 year's old. It now sports a Lyman # 17 front aperture sight and a Williams rear aperture sight. It shoots 10 meters well it 3 pumps, this combination works well with CPHP's. The front peep is held on with hand formed epoxy putty.BobH.
Without sounding like an Airgun snob, because I too would like to have a Daisy 853 from CMP.I do not know your budget but from your list in your sig line.... I believe you could swing a used FWB 300S club gun. They were made by the 1000's for shooting clubs like the Boy Scouts and 4-H. Even imported by Daisy for a while. I got mine from the knowledgeable Joe Rhea. I requested one that he had rebuilt and re-blued, but to save money I requested the wood was untouched. While that made it show it's age, I shot it that way the first season. It is amazingly accurate. Then this winter I sanded it and refinished it. I realize you asked about a SSP, and it is a springer, but you would never know it by shooting it. Literally no recoil and it is a side lever, not a break barrel. If you want a vintage, wood and steel, 10M gun, I doubt you could find much better for the price.

Were the class of competition shoot for years.
That's a nice looker Scott, nice job on the wood, Do you mind if I ask the price range of those before they are fully restored?
