i had four goats wonder up the mtn to our house. i rode the 4 wheeler around to most of the neighbors on this mtn. but none of which have, or have had goats. probably come from the mtns across from us. nobody has claimed them. i left them loose for several hours but they wouldn't leave even with the dogs tormenting them. i have since had to chain them up to keep them out of my shrubbery and flowers. make no mistake this place ain't the biltmore estate but what i do have growing and looking good took twice the effort on this rock.

i guess my question is do you think its wrong for me tying up the goats to save my shrubs. for the record my healer pup has been restricted to solitary confinement (12x12 dog lot) for the same reason. at what point should i give up on someone claiming the goats? if someone claims them is it unreasonable to expect them to reimburse me for the feed i bought to care for their goats.

Soon to be goat farmer.

will i have to tuck my pants inside my boots at that point to be a true goat farmer.

No it is not unreasonable to expect the owner to pay for the work and feed you put into them, if you can't find
the owner after a week or 2 I'd say they are yours, maybe you should post them on craigslist?

yea maybe. They could be useful to clean the under growth up behind the house if nothing else. I would think someone would be looking to get them back though. I don't want to keep/ steal their goats. But I have this feeling they aren't going anywhere. Already been a week. Maybe craigslist will help.

I seen a show about a lady who raises goats and hires them out to clean up underbrush on different properties. Its usually in places that, for what ever reason, would be difficult to mow. She just brings some tempory fencing and stakes out a little area and lets the goats do their thing. When that area is as clean as needed, she moves the fence until the job is complete. A decent horse/(goat) trailor and some temporary fencing and you are in business. LOL.
Just another possibility.

State of Maryland is using them right now to eat up invasive plant species. Fence off the area and turn 'em loose. Commercial outfit supplies this service.

Now, if you have any Jamaican friends, curries goat is mighty tasty.

Are you wrong for tying up stray goats to protect your shrubs?? Heck, they are lucky at this time not to be on the menu. BBQ goat is mighty good.

Or some Gyro's, It is nice of you to take them in, I know I wouldn't, can't stand a yard full of those little goat turds{and every thing they climb on}, for me, let the brush grow I'll cut it down with lead when it gets to close to the house.

hehehe i have goats...Eco lawn mowers

they graze my fields and keep to them selves....i got a junkyard dog who loves to lunge at them and act all scary, raise Cain and show teeth...the goats? they could careless

if you tie them up, use a old car rim and give then a 20' leash. they DO need a water source but other then that they very very low maintenance

in the summer when the apples are busting out the goats know! the trees are by my shooting lane and they "bark" for apples....right behind me barking til i through a dozen or so at them....then they headbutt each other toget them, its all to funny....after two weeks i'd go with the law of "finders vs. keepers" lol....bart

DON'T PUT THEM ON CRAIGSLIST!!! if you do, make them tell you what color all 4 are. Someone will just eat them, Comprende si?

If they become a problem aack, let me know and i'll come get them. Really.

They could begin clearing land for me, you can visit them anytime you want. They will have collars and bells and i'm gonna buy a donkey to protect them from coyotes. But only if the real owner doesn't claim them, and you have to get rid of them. I don't want them eaten

If you are worried put up some ads or give the local sheriff a call. The sheriff might take them and you are out of it. Ads not being answered means you still have them.

Maybe if no one claims them for a couple months you can sell them to a Mosque for a BBQ?

actually ....goat is the MOST consumed meat on earth. I've had it cooked many different ways. Its not my favorite, but its good. Greek gyro's with the yogurt sauce is awesome or a nice yellow goat curry with rice and naan or even on a spit slow roasted....yummmm I'm getting hungry

my goats are pets-lawn mowers, but i don't see anything wrong with folks eating goats. Goats must be harvested when they are young like sheep. A lamb is tasty...... a sheep is mutton lol...so what I'm getting at is NOT just Muslims eat goat....Bart

Sell them to the Army Corps of Engineers at Ft. Belvoir. They raise them for use on military bases. Used to see them out in Hawaii, chewing their cuds atop ammo bunkers. Yep, sparkless lawn mowers. Lots of bases use them.

Or you could sign them up here on the GTA. We have a lot of old goats (present company included) so they should fit right in. Maybe we ought to have an Old Goats Gate? Chew on that for a while, Gene.

not really worried about them. i'm sure i can sell/give or use them one way or another. mainly looking for other opinions on what is considered a reasonable time frame. i was personally thinking 3 weeks.

i have been monitoring craigslist and iwanna. if they were looking for a found add they can just as easily post a lost add. not to sound bad but i'm not gonna have every body and his brother calling or emailing me.

never eat any goat. not above it, just never had any.i may give 2 away and keep 2. probably not to eat. either they will clear and not be a nuisance or i will likely sell them.

Goat herding would be a more appropriate term, but goat farming was more of a local personal joke.

Goat owner found.

she will be coming to pick them up this evening. lived on mtn across from me. apparently they got out during one of the bad storms we had on the 11th. she just posted this week a lost ad. i haven't looked in two days. but i seen it today.

she sounded very excited to have found them and had been looking for them (around her house). glad she found them and they will go home.

If she only knew all the thoughts and ideas about what to do with her goats from bbq to sold/giveaway, she probably won't wait 10days to post a lost ad next time they get out.
