Daisy 74 accuracy

As expected gun is not a tack driver but groups pretty good at 10 meters...anything further and starts to drop...saw guys on utube claiming accurate at 60 feet ..mine wont do that....anybody know where I can get the stock ext...in the vid or do I need to make one ...thanks

Yeah.......my 74's hit next to nothing at 20 yards......on purpose that is. I'm thinking that the quality control on a $35 BB plinker that's made in China may not be that good. A vast minority of them are great and most are just that.....a cheap BB plinker. I have no regrets. I knew I was getting a weak shooting Co2 powered semi-auto BB carbine. Inside 20', carpenter bees better beware.

I used a "Black Sheep" brand slip on rubber recoil pad (small) to stretch the length of pull of my 74. It's about the ideal companion to the "Rocket Shot " can launcher. Factory sights are adequate for hitting the disc that launches the can,and instinct over the sights shots hit the flying can. Accurate enough and powerful enough for the purpose I'm using the 74 for,and it's cheap operate.

More often than not my slightly hotted up 74 will hit a hanging mayo jar at just under 50 yards (46.6 yards to be exact, from my mailbox at the top of the driveway down the side yard to the target). Do it most days when I get the mail, so I stay in practice. I use either open sights or the cheapest, cheesiest plastic red dot that can be imagined- a  Daisy 'Max View' that came in a pile of parts I got in a trade.

    This gent has a few airgun videos on Youtube.  He is an exceptional shot offhand. Here is him shooting his 74:

   

    He is one of those guys that can bust aspirins at 10 yards (and farther) even with his Red Ryder.

   And this gent has two 74's. One stock except for taping the barrel, and the other has more mods. He chronies them, but gets abysmal velocities. For a gun rated on the box at 350 fps, the first gun gets less than half that.

Bone stock I got  250-260 fps and an ES of about 20 fps, done outside in January in north GA. The 'barrel stabilization' mod he did has to be done w/a deft touch- if at all. The barrel acts as the hammer on these guns so any undue stiction between the shot tube and the ID of the front sight/barrel plug can kill velocity by impeding the free movement of the shot tube.

His velocities are not far off from what I'm getting from both my 74's. I tape modded the barrel on one of them as it's accuracy was real bad. The other one was OK so left it be. It is what it is. A cheap Co2 BB plinker with little quality control. That, said I'm having some fun with mine.
