Morning ya'll...I called Crosman this morning to order a gas spring for my Vantage that failed. I also checked prices for a Nitro Venom stock, metal muzzle brake, and picatinny rail. The sales rep said they don't sell the picatinny rail; it's welded on to the compression tube. Does this sound right to you? Whether it's true or not...she didn't have one to sell. Do you know who makes a low mount rail. I was trying to not get one that clamps onto the dovetails, but screws into the tube. My thinking was the clamp-on type would just be something else to shoot loose. Thanks.

Welded or soldered on: yes. If you think about it, it's probably cheaper, easier, and stronger. The air tube wall thickness is pretty thin, and so doesn't give a whole lot of "meat" for threads to grab. Also, welding or soldering is likely more secure, as instead of relying on two or four small screws, gripping maybe three threads total in the mild steel airtube, you have a solder joint (or weld) running the length of the rail, and having a lot more surface area to "hold on to."

You should be able to do a Venom Dusk/Trail tube if it's got to be a Weaver rail, just make sure the barrel lock up is the same. There are a couple of different methods of barrel lock up over the years, just make sure you order the same type. Yours is likely a spring loaded "single wedge" that engages a lateral pin in the tube. -OR- you could try a UTG dovetail to weaver mount like this one:

I've never had a problem with this mount "walking," and it comes with 10 degrees of barrel droop compensation built-in. Lastly, it has four mounting screws along the bottom for the dovetail and two scope-stop screws (one front and one rear...I only use the rear, obviously as there is no holes that far forward on the tube). Add your scope and weaver rings of choice, and go to town. It does raise the scope center-line a bit higher than I care for, but it really has never been a problem.

Knowing what I know now; I would probably have started off with the Nitro Venom Dusk. When I was just getting into the hobby, the Vantage seemed like the cheapest way for me not to hear my wife say, "Are you nuts? $100 for a BBgun?"

Initially, I bought the Vantage, but had problems with the recoil. Damaged the scope that came with it and the dovetailing on the rifle. Sheared the stop pin on a scope mount. Cross threaded one of the stock screws while working on the trigger. Rethreaded it and got all new metric socket head bolts. Put in a CDT GRT III trigger. Purchased the wrong CDT trigger first (one really needs to know what they're ordering...but so glad to get the right one installed!) Several recommended the synthetic Venom stock. Last weekend the gas ram failed. I ordered the stock, gas ram, and muzzle break for $75. Supposedly the Vantage rifle will fit it. It's been a bit of a rocky start, but I've met some cool people...but yep, probably cheaper to have purchased the Nitro Venom from the start. Or I guess one could start rat-holing this money and get a PCP. That's getting on my mind too, lol!

Just so you know, the Nitro Venom stock isn't all that comfortable for bench shooting. The grip angle didn't work all that well, for me. Having said that, it IS an excellent off hand stock configuration. It makes for an excellent hunter.

Have you taken a look at this one?
Yeah it's a little pricey, but for all I have found the lowest profile dovetail to picatinny adapter around.

Scott what stock configuration did you find better suited for bench rest?
Juergen I looked at that one. If I can't get the current setup to work, that might be my next purchase.

I prefer a standard sporter style stock configuration for bench shooting. ( That's to say what is commercially available, vs a full on custom bench rest stock ).
The Nitro Venom just has an odd feel to it. It would give me a cramp in the palm of my hand, after a while. Still a darn comfortable hunting stock.
I shoot differently than most people. I prefer to be more upright behind the bags. Most people I've seen are laying down, like they're taking a nap. ( I put my Caldwell bag on top of a 6" platform, to get it up to my liking ).

Yes. But, I can't remember what one it is. PM Avator. I originally got the venom from him. He had a different stock on it.

I used the Vantage NP stock if I remember right. The wrist on the VNP is much thinner making shooting it more comfortable. It was originally done so Betty Lou would be comfortable shooting the NVD but, she never really got into shooting springers.
I also remember ordering the wood stock for the NVD. That wood stock felt even thicker at the wrist.

I read a recent complaint about Crosman customer service. While I'm sorry he had a bad experience, I had to post that mine was good. I ordered the Nitro Venom Dusk stock and while I was on the phone I showed the young lady the online confusion between a picture they had and the drawing they had on the schematic. I explained very clearly that I did not want the scalloped stock in the schematic, but wanted the stippled one in the photo. I even asked her to note it on the order. She said there was no place to do so. I suggested she hand write it and she indicated that was not acceptable. I said my concern was that the guy in the warehouse would simply grab the stock by part number and not get the one I wanted. She assured me that would not be the case. I waited a week and excitedly opened the box to find the exact stock I did NOT want. I called back and spoke with a different gentleman. I explained everything I just wrote above, and he spent some time online with me, deciphering which exact stock I wanted. I also remembered this time to ask for the stock lug, as I failed to ask the young lady to include one. I asked him where to ship the scalloped stock and he said, "Our mistake, don't bother." Again I waited anxiously for another week, and yesterday received the exact stock I was looking for, along with the stock lug. So kudos to Crosman for making one customer satisfied.

Good evening all! Just wanted to take some time to offer up the results of all your help! I was finally able to put all the pieces together and got things working. So I originally had someone suggest a Nitro Venom stock. I was pretty specific with the Crosman saleslady and this is what she sent:

I did not like the finger grooves, so when that's what showed up, I was disappointed. I called Crosman and got a another salesman. He looked up the 2 stocks and suggested the correct one:

I also added the muzzle brake. It is plastic, as they don't make the metal one anymore. I was able to put it all together today. It's got a CDT trigger, Accushot mount, UTG 3-12x44 w/ mil-dot reticle. I think it's shooting better with heavier pellets. Today I was sighting it in with Crosman Premier Domed, 10.5gr. I set up at 10yds to get things sighted in and after I got it dialed in, I put this one up:
I called the 2 flyers and put one right back in the black, to make sure. I'm so appreciative of all of you that chimed in with suggestions and advice. Thanks!
