Hey Guys (& Gals)..-7F this AM & I managed to get THIS Squirrel !

I've just got back in from hunting and..Wow..I'm So Happy with this 22 Cal. Crosman Summit Ranger rifle !     I went out hunting in the woods this morning at around 7Am just a little before dawn. I was following a forest trail that I have scrubbed out over the past 30 years of living here.  I crossed a small shallow duck lake to gain access to a nice stand of Oaks beyond. After I entered those woods I spotted a Squirrel moving through the forest. I trailed him through this forest until he came to rest on a pile of logs. The shot was broadside and I had a clear unobstructed view of the entire squirrel in this elevated position. I knelt down in the snow and took a supported off-hand shot with my gun braced by my arm and elbow resting on my knee. I hit the squirrel square in the side of the head. The pellet hit him just below the ear and exited below and to the front of the other ear, on the opposite side of his head.  The range was about 25 to 30 yards. The Sky was Overcast and Cloudy with more Snow on the way. The Temp was -7F and the winds were calm. There was about 24 inches of fresh power snow on the ground. The squirrel dropped dead in his tracks. I was shooting 22 Cal Crosman Piranha 14.4 Gr. Hunting Pellets. The gun that I was using was my 22 Cal. Crosman Summit Ranger NP2 Rifle.  I Gotta tell you... this gun is Quickly Becoming my Favorite Rifle for hunting in the back woods.     That Makes 51 squirrels for this season and 3 for 2018.  If I had been on my toes I might have gotten another Cottontail too.  One jumped up out of the snow bank next to some Dead Falls in the Area and took off while I was monkeying around trying to take the pictures.  Thats ok. Now that I know there is one living back there I will target him next time I am back in that area.  WOW what a feeling successful hunting is.  GEE WHIZ.....AM I EVER STOKED THIS MORNING !     Good Luck to all you GTA hunters.  I Sincerely Hope that You can be successful TOO !

Great shooting Tom!  Perfect shot placement. 

I don't know how you do it with those extreme temps.  I give you a lot of credit.  That's beautiful scenery and trail btw.  That would probably make me hit the woods... humm...  when it's 30 out, not -7

We will be getting some more snow tonight.  I willl have a fresh coat of tracking snow for my next hunt so we will see what tomorrow morning brings.  I will post results, ( if any)  Here.

Tom, excellent hunt and shot! In that cold with a head shot at that distance is spectacular! The photos are unreal especially the winter morning shot..gracious! Well, that rabbit you saw is in biggg trouble ...you should be stoked! LOL

Thank You Randall !      I am a Forest Hunter.  The Cold and Snow are what lies out there.  I am in my Zone and True Environment while Hunting.     I am glad you enjoyed my hunting post.     I am fortunate to live were I do and try to share my good fortune with other folks like you Randall.
