I've read a few places that pumpers should have one pump of air left in them? Not sure how true that is?

I'm restoring both my 760's at the moment. Didn't ever leave 1 pump in the 760v1, and the seals are shot. The 760-D gets pulled out of a trash can by a friend-of-a-friend out junkin' and gets passed to me. And it shoots fine!? Barrel down in the trash rustin', and it works great...

I have always left a pump or two in every pump air rifle. Started this with Sheridans & just have continued.

I actually started leaving 3 pumps in mine, when I got back into airguns, when I noticed the pump cup in my Model 1 got deformed frrom just sitting.
For self cockers I hear to only put one pump, to be safe. Actually, I've read that the instructions once said to leave some air in pumpers but Crosman removed that suggestion due to safety concerns. This was before I was born though.

They might sound like a lot of work till you realize you only need 3-4 pumps for plinking.

The self cockers don't use the same seals as the later ones, just get the mac1 kit for it.
I don't know about leaving a pump of air in the self cockers, but I don't do it to my 760 and it's just fine.
I leave a pump of air in all my other pump rifles that will sit for an extended period of time, it's just good for the seals that way.

Crosman says that's a no-no.
The Quad seal can and will adhere to the valve nipple, then when shot, buh-bye seal.
Here is the OM and EVP.
Note the line in the care of section.

Thanks for sharing the info. Glad we finally discussed this one! The later of my two 760's, the 760-D Pumpmaster, only cocks when you pull the Nylon66-like bolt back. I'm thinking it's possible the seals in the 760 v1 went bad from disuse and sheer age?
