Anybody have an affordable source for Bellville washers for paintball/HPA regulators? I’ve searched the web, but they seem really elusive or ridiculsely expensive! I’m wanting to rebuild a couple regulators that have the spring and want to convert them to the Bellville Washer stack so i can get them to around 1250 -1300 psi. Thanks...

High quality Spring steel made to uniform specs ... Not cheap

McMaster-Carr or MSC industrial are likely your least expensive source. Schroder spring make some nice products also but you'll pay a premium. Used to get those for really high speed punching dies. Spec spring also but they too are proud of their product. The first 2 sources work well in the application your wanting to use then for. not sure of the O.D your wanting but .5" diameter were about $10/ dozen IIRC.

I have ordered them from McMaster but I have a preference for the ones from Zoro because they have less of a burr at the rims.

The 0.032" thickness is generally good for setpoints from 1000 - 1500psi which is about as high as you can go without blowing out the 1.8k burst disk.

Jason, Thank you for the link! Are the washers in the link the correct size (ID/OD) for the Ninja Regulators?

Yes, they fit Ninja as well as most other brands of paintball type regulators.

Thanks Jason! I ordered 2 packs. I signed up for their newsletter and got 15% off too! McMaster's price per pack was cheaper, but I don't like the fact that you never know what their shipping is going to be until after you place the order. And, as I recall, it was much more than $5.00 the last time I placed an order with them.

Thank you for answering a question, I had on the burrs around the outside edge of the washers etc.

Since these washers expand/contact while under pressure, my concern was at the ends of the stack/Alum body parts etc,
It would make sense to very carefully smooth/polish this surface, to promote a uniform results etc.

Yeah, it doesn't take long to deburr the rim so long as the burr is on the concave side. If memory serves, that's the way they're usually punched out. Piece of glass, some 400 and 600 grit paper, a few circular trips on both and it's smooth.

Frankly I don't know that it makes any difference given the compression forces at play but I once got some washers with a burr that was bad enough to be easily felt with my fingernail so I took a few minutes to deal with it.

I have a 5c collet setup for the lathe, I can chuck up a rod/spring jig, to spin and smooth the edges etc,
I won't remove any material, just clean up the edges etc.

Do you clean up the inside hole also, as it has the same edges from punching blanking out?

Well, it's worth a look...if you can distinguish a burr, I'd say it's worth the peace of mind to remove it. You seem to be very detail oriented so I suspect you would err on the side of caution as well.

Bear in mind for the most part you will only be using 0.032" Bellevilles in series so if there is a burr on the ID on the concave side, it won't touch anything. I did however see a generic regulator one time that had some pretty gnarly Bellevilles and one had a burr on the ID that was turned inward and was digging into the regulator spool. So every situation is potentially different.

A local Fuller hardware has a fantastic fastener section and they stock bellevilles. I've gotten several sizes from them over the years for several uses. Might want to check your better local hardware stores for something similar.

Where do find the proper size of Bell washers, in thinner thickness down to .005"?

None of the 3 sites listed have them, that I can find, the thinnest is .022".

Don, I just replied to your question about shims in the other thread. I just use the standard Bellville washers and fine tune with the shims. Zoro.com offers a sample pack of shims for $4 and some change. The sizes vary from .001 to .125, with just about every size in-between. I picked up 5 packs, which should give me plenty of shims to fine tune my regulators to some pretty exact outputs!

You normally don't use thinner Bellevilles for shims.... just flat shims.... McMaster Carr has them in just about any thickness.... You can get 2 thicknesses from Ninja, 0.004" and 0.020"....

I had planned on using the flat shims, for the final adjustment ranges.

Question,
After I have the I/S and O/S burrs lightly polished off,
would there be a problem with a very very lite coating of Silicon grease applied on these washers,
by lite coat, you can just feel the grease?

Silicone is a poor lubricant for metal on metal, and the washers are not exposed to high pressure air so feel free to use a conventional lubricant. Simple 30W non-detergent is fine.
