Rescue attempt on a 150...

See how it turns out...was a bit rougher than I thought originally, but I wanted one...it was available...it wasn't too much money.

Had it resealed and shooting inside an hour of opening the package. Has a few issues that need to be sorted, but nothing that cannot be handled. Fun little pistol.







Tore it right down this morning. Parts are washed up, most of the steel parts are on the first cycle of rust bluing, trigger frame has been bead blasted and painted. Update pics tomorrow maybe.

Will need to source or make the rear receiver screw and some grips...the rest appears quite salvageable.

First rust cycle...



Boiled in distilled water...



Carded with 0000 degreased steel wool...



Trying to rescue the grips....posts that hold the screws were gone, rebuilding with JB weld and then I'll drill for the screws...might work.



Will spare you the balance of the rust/boil/card cycles...will be done next post.

  Great little shooters, and accurate too. I purchased a set of rosewood grips from Vern. Sure made that Old Girl look purrrdy!!! I was lucky to get one in such nice condition. Makes me want to pull her out and plink with her.

I was looking at trying rust blueing but I think I'm going down the hot salt blacking route

Hot salts are something I intend to have a go at too. I can never seem to get a high gloss finish with rust bluing. Won't be giving up on it just yet though.

Ended up making the screw I needed...not a big job, but makes for an expensive screw if you charge for your time lol. Grips were repaired with Jb weld and painted with truck bed liner to hide the jb weld...not the ideal solution, but still very usable and not an eye sore.

Despite the rust pitting, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Not going to be "collector" grade, but I've got a fairly nice little shooter for my efforts. 

Finished re-assembly about a half hour ago;

Those grips look great.
Best part is they are sealed now.
The white ones on the one I had started to break down and smell bad.
