NP2 CBT Trigger Changed from Zinc to Steel ?

Yesterday I encountered a steel ( magnetic ) trigger in a Crosman Benjamin NP2 Clean Break Trigger assembly.

The trigger has been a zinc ( nonmagnetic ) diecast part for about a decade.  ( plastic before that )

Has the trigger material recently changed ?

Will steel make the trigger better ?

If your trigger is steel, what is the age and model of NP2 rifle ?

Magnetic??? Is that part of the trigger action or do you mean a steel trigger as in a magnet sticks to it?

I do not believe the NP2 has been in production for ten years.  I think it's been out for over three years but not yet four.

I do believe the one I picked up a couple of years ago had a steel trigger.  I don't know what is in current production.

This trigger design was introduced in 2003 with the Benjamin Legacy 1000 and has been used in "Made in USA"  break barrel rifles ever since.

Part number ELS-100 Trigger pack, introduced on the NPSS in 2009, is also used on the NP2. The CDT CDB trigger fits it. So, yes, the trigger pack has been around a lot longer than the NP2. You can check the NPS 32040 EVP against the NP2 EVP.

Yeah, but it starts with the NPS CR-ELS122 in 2009. I did find the EVP at Crosman. The NPSS EVP I looked at is one I downloaded a while back. The NPS and NPSS are two different models. Same trigger group on all of them, NP2, NPS and NPSS.

I'm still skeptical. Part numbers change on paper when a part is superseded or as we say in coding deprecated.

I'd think Crosman would be smart enough not to claim something like a trigger was new if in fact it was not.
Physical proof from the Guns in question would be the actual way to prove it one way or another.

You tell me you saw a Flying Saucer glowing at night? I want proof it wasn't a glow in the dark Frisbee.

Crosman also claimed the Nitro Piston was new when in fact others had used it at least ten years earlier.

I’ll try to answer my own questions.

Two newly purchased NP2 rifles, Rouge and Steel Eagle, have been reported with steel triggers. I conclude that Crosman recently switched production with a steel trigger replacing the diecast alloy unit.  This was probably done for economic reasons.

Steel is harder, more resistant to wear but may rust if the coating is removed.  Smoothing or recontouring the trigger should be followed by a surface coating.  If the tolerances and geometry are unchanged, the trigger should work as before.
