First airgun in a LONG time, down to these two

I want to get back into airguns and have been looking around a lot. But kept running into issues with the multi-pumps and break barrel types. So I am thinking i'll bite the bullet and go straight to PCP. Looking around i found these two kits that include a pump since i don't have anything right now. What would be the better purchase here. I'm really liking the idea of a magazine on the Diana.

Are you looking for .17 cal or .22 ?

......of those two I would go for the Diana, but if you looking for a .22 I would definitely take a good look at the Gamo Urban

The problem i see with the Gamo Urban is that cost does't include the pump like the ones i listed so i'm thinking that is at least another 150 or so. I'm already going $100.00 over what i was first thinking i was going to spend. I do believe in cry once so if that is really worth the extra i will look at it.

I originally was looking for BB/Pellet to teach my 7 and 6 year old grand sons gun safety and the basics of shooting while i could also use it for nuisance critter eradication. Found so many issues with those that i decided to move up to pellet only and tried to figure out what would be better between the gas piston types or multi-pump for ease of use with accuracy for 150 or so. I was talking to members of a Gun forum i'm on and one of them told me of a coupon that would drop the price on Crosman site and while looking around there i saw the Maximus kit (with pump) would come out to 269. So this process has gone from $50 up to $270 already. $400 is just really steep.

Of the two you specified I'd go for the Stormrider, my Varmint from Mrodair which is basically the same thing as the Stormrider was giving me an average of about 26fpe for 21 shots which is 3 clips.  I'm spoiled on multishot these days.

You can buy the hand pump for well under $100 on either Ebay or Amazon with a little searching and they're the same pumps as the big name branded pumps for half the price or even less.

Well, I think the Urban is around 250 or so on Amazon Prime right now, I've seen it all the way down to 198
On Ebay you can get those pumps for around 50 bucks.

One more thing you gotta consider is that the Urban comes with a silencer on, the Maximus you will need to buy one.

OK the idea that the pumps are basically the same is a big deal. I did not expect that to be the case. Do they have different adapters that i have to be careful about when ordering?

So for my edification what is it that makes the Urban better than either of the two i was looking at, the Maximus or the Stormrider. And the listing on amazon lists it as a Gamo 600054 Urban PCP.22. is that 600054 the right version???

Where are you going to shoot, urban setting like a large backyard? Or do you have access to open - wooded land?  If shooting in an urban setting stick to .177,  If you have some property or large open land or wooded land? go for whatever you like.

The Stormrider is not a true Diana. Its a Chinese made gun with a Diana label on it. There are some known common issues(weak charging handle and poor quality orings) with it. Most owners do like this gun, whether its under the Varmint or Stormrider label.
The Urban seems to be built better, and once again owners really like this gun as well. So far, no common issues with this gun. Right now, the Urban is about $50 more than the Stormrider, but you'll get a very effective silencer. However, an additional magazine will cost you about $50 
There are quite a number of recent threads here on these 2 guns.

Personally, I'd go with the Urban.

The urban needs a scope I do not think it comes with open sites. The stormrider is a good choice to teach a new shooter it has the single shot tray too.

HAve had good service from the Chinese pumps...one coming on 3 years, the other coming close to 2 years of use.  Didn't buy the cheapest, looked for one with acessory kit (rebuild o-rings. Silicon oil/etc.)  Still have had to rebuild either of them.

That's longer than either of my Hills pumps ran without a rebuild.

IF there is a trick to keeping the pump alive and well, it's a very unpopular one.

Basically, I pump in sets of 50-60 strokes, bleed line, disconnect the pump, and go off for a bit to let it cool down.

Hook it back up and do another cycle.

IDea here is to minimize heat build up and to blow out the pump every 50-60 strokes.

Reason it's unpopular is that it takes a long long time (many sets) to fill a large volume and many airgunners are not the most patient folks.  On some of the small volume airguns (like the Discovery/Stormrider/etc) can get it done in one set when filling from like 1000-2000 (or 1700-2900 for the Stormrider).

So generally, shooing either the Stromerider (SPA) or the Maxi (or Discovery), one set of pumps from the bottom of the sweet spot to the top does it.

Don't have a Gamo Urban...no comments on filling it to 3365psi or what filling to just 3K would do for shot count.  Cylinder is small, which would be a plus for pump filling.

Large Yard, Good neighbors ( shooters too) so not too worried about some noise. Actually one of the things that got me looking again was a neighbor and his grandaughter shooting.

Ok it looks like i'm in limbo again, Maximus or Gamo now, leaning towards the Urban. PCP rifles don't have any special needs for scopes like springers would, right? I didn't even realize (look hard enough)  that the Urban didn't have iron sites, that not worthy.

Any scope for pcp, since there are hardly any recoil. I recommend a Hawke Vantage: lower price scale; good glass; lightweight.

On a gun of that power recoil is just about non existent,
in over a decade of shooting PCPs I've never bought a scope that is over 100 some bucks,
I've settle now in only getting UTG/Leapers scopes

When I got my maximus hunter 22, got it to my door for $165. Ordered it Fri for free shipping and applied "agnation" 25% off. Not sure if that still is going on. Hunter comes with decent centerpoint scope...have no problem up to 50+yrds, it loves 14.3 cphp.
