 Scott all I have done is open the barrel and transfer port, and HS adjustment, there is a big honking valve in there that you may find interesting, but I have not felt the need to go inside it but some gains may be had there also. Best to shoot it and see where Travis left off on it

Well ... looks like I've got some reading to do !!!  Whoa like 64 pages worth.
I'm joining you due to just acquiring a 705-9K in .22 cal from Travis ( Oldpro )
He stated it had an updated barrel installed, tho yet to shoot it or fool with it what so ever.

For those who have done any In Depth work internally ? ..... Quick ideas or thoughts appreciated.

Scott if you still have the stock barrel for that gun, they're excellent barrels for shooting the BBT's (no sizing needed), I don't know what kind of barrel Travis put in that gun but I've got my valve exhaust and transfer port drilled out to 5/32", the barrel (stock) don't need drilling because there's 3 or 4 (can't remember) barrel port holes that equal to more then you need.  I also had to drill out the receiver port as well.  Mike M. can also get drop in regulators for that gun as well from what I understand but I've never installed one.

So were the 702s 12FPE rifles.  Could the FPE be tuned up on this non-regulated PCP?

It looks like the 702s are not available on Flyingdragon.  I wonder if we'll see a general lack of air rifle supply over the winter months.  A couple of airgun podcast I've been listening to suggest a lot of stuff isn't going to make it available before the holidays.  I'd thought about a getting 702 to compare to the DAR .177 I just got.  Figured even if I just shot it for a few months there would be a ready market here.

860fps equates to 17ftlbs. I'm using the stock transfer port, the hammer spring adjusted to 4 out of 5. There's plenty of room for more.

Sweet ! I did have one issue with mine. a few hundred shots in I lost velocity and it was erratic. There is a plastic part that covers the valve where the valve is, the poppet stem goes through that, it is held in place with a small Philips screw, and had worked it's way loose and was interfering with the hammer strike. Something to snug up or be on the lookout for.

Already addressed that potential problem, while I had the trigger group out.
I'm thinking I might strip the stock, this winter, and stain it a medium-dark green. With the grain in that stock, it should make for a pretty cool camo.

just sold a 705-9, real tack driver ,177 cal. , best pellet h and n 10.5, one hole at 20yrds, .375 at 45 yrds, 806 fps, tank pressure 2800- 1700. the only thing i didn't like the weight

Mine is learning to eat cheap. Crosman 10.5's are going to be all it gets. I'm still leading the barrel, but, groups are already tightening up.

I was getting some really odd fliers. I noticed that the magazine would rotate backwards, ever so slightly, when the bolt was pushed forward.  That got me to looking at the front of the mags. I found that the pellet wasn't lining up with the hole, on the breach side of the mag, so, I opened up the hole, with a drill bit one size larger than the existing hole. I also tapered & polished the leade, to ease the transition of the pellet into the breach. Problem solved.
Now, it's shooting one ragged hole groups, that barely measure .22 inches outside to outside.
I'm a happy camper.

Been fooling around a bit ...  Opened up the transfer port to @ .160" being near equal the hole size exiting valve body.   Being the stickler I am pushed some pellets down several barrels also received from Mr.T,  Finding none of them thrilled me but one !  It being one of the older permanent LDC on end, small shroud barrels.  In shooting it with CP Domes at @ 850 fps ( Power 2 at @ 2400 psi ) they are near hole in hole at 30Y and about  1" at 80 yards.

Other than that rifles shoot pretty dang well and is a great truck / thrasher / beater gun for those instances you don't need a fancy pants rifle !!

* also found the OEM o-ring on breech probe was leaking when fired .. looked good but was not !!  Replaced with a POLY 005 size all is well now.  ( .22 cal BTW )

With all of the recent sales of the last 705 Sentry guns, I imagine this page will once again be active. Wayne has 'moved on' to the AEA line but I will be getting my new 705 this week and I will join the club here and keep posting my findings, mods and targets. Thanks for 65 pages of great reading, all!

I’m sure you’re right David.  I’ve got a 705 in 22 that I’ve put a couple thousand pellets through and had a couple of hiccups but thanks to this thread (and all who have contributed) the necessary fixes were easy peasy.  Told a friend of the great deal Mike has on the 25 cal Sentrys and they picked one.  Told her about this thread and was thinking of resurrecting it myself but you beat me to it.  Enjoy your new 25!  If I didn’t have three other 25 calibers guns already I would jump all over that deal…  (Still might)

The plan is to return my DAR ll to a pellet-pusher again and use the Sentry for slugs only.

Don't get me started on AEA, I was about 10 seconds from getting one last week. Glad I didn't now so I could grab a sentry and I will grab a JTS too.

Well, I got the Sentry 705-9T today and cleaned the barrel right off before doing anything else. It took 10 patches with Hoppes #9 but I got it clean enough to fire some pellets.

First up were the Venerable JSB Kings, 25.39gr, which are thank goodness, are available at Baker (I just got 5 tins a few minutes ago). These out of a cold, new, non-seasoned barrel did a first 7 shot group of 0.30" center to center at 10m.

Now, 0.30" isn't a fantastic group at 10m but it is encouraging since many of my 50y groups mimic 10m groups from the DAR ll guns I have. This is the pellet I will work with while I polish and season this barrel. I shot these at power setting 2.5 then cranked it up all the way to max and shot another mag with the same results, 0.30".

On to slugs: I started with 36gr NOE slugs sized to 0.247" and ended up with a 3" group at 10m then moved to 0.249" slugs that opened up to 6" and they were unstable to the point of hitting the target sideways and fully key-holing. No resistance on insertion into the breech so I need to slug the barrel and see what actual size is.

I then shot as cast, about 0.255" with light resistance on insertion, they shot a 1-1/2" group but no matter what I do, I cant shrink the group right now. 

I took out my 46gr RN, had to single feed them as they are about 0.01" too long to rotate the magazine, they also shoot a 1-1/2" group. Not looking so promising for a slug gun after all.

I'll get speeds and the such when I shoot it next, time to saddle up the DAR ll in .25 and see what it does with slugs in comparison, I may have to go the other way and make the Sentry the pellet gun...

You might have clipping going on. I have that problem with my.25 sentry. With the ldc removed it shot much more accurate. Warning, it's a real PITA to get the ldc off.

It's been longer than my sometimers can remember. I'm sure Wayne could tell you. I do remember once you get the barrel out you need to grip the shroud with the ldc up and slam it on a WELL padded flat surface like a work bench which will slide the shroud down and allow you to remove it from the barrel. You then need to drill a hole just a little bit bigger than the barrel then thread the barrel thru the hole and pull hard. That should remove the ldc. It takes a lot of force to get it off.
