Wayne, you're getting more power out of your.22 than I'm getting out of my .25. I'm beginning to wonder if Mike really did a plus one tune on mine.

I've never asked Mike just what he does for his mod tunes, I never bought one from him in any other condition than stock from the box personally.  I basically figured out how to do it all myself so he might not even go up to 5/32" for all the ports etc. that lead to the barrel.  The barrel ports equal way more than 5/32" so the only thing I've done to those ports is beveled them for a smoother flow.  I've done two of the 702's to 5/32" as well.  I never wanted the power from the carbine style that I wanted from my 705's so even when I tested them I never pushed them to the limit.

Here is the first variant that I bought from Scott, I never tried opening up the ports any larger on this one however from a discussion that I've had over the phone with Mike he's said that people have drilled the exhaust port on the valve at an angle so they could go bigger then 5/32" for the newer valves.  I haven't really tried getting a gob of power from this original 702 and never really adjusted the hammer spring any higher than the halfway point because the air tube's capacity wasn't near the HC airtube and I wanted to get as many good shots from it as I could.  I have no doubt that I could probably get 40fpe or  more from it but the shot count would go way down.



In my opinion the original's that had the bolt action similar to what a Marauder is, are so much smoother than the new style it's unreal.

Mike said he opened the ports to.138 or 3.5 mm which isn't much. I guess if I can get it to shoot accurately I'll leave it alone.

Hi guys, I'm still trying to digest all the info on the 705s, I've read thru this post twice, I'm still unsure if I want to go with a .177 or a .22, using heavy for caliber pellets/slugs. The .177 pellets may be too small to handle easily, I don't know. I will get it with a tune from MM. My needs are for near to 50/60 yards max (maybe more). This will be my first PCP rifle, hoping to do it all with one if possible. (Ya I know, been there before)

I will be doing informal target shooting with friends but mostly birds and ground rodents around my place. I live in the country and my nearest neighbor is over 1/4 mile from me.

I think I want mine setup for accurate, reliable and fast. Not necessarily in that order. There seems to be very little input from .177 owners period, much less how well they are working on any specific usage.

Those with experience, especially with the .177, I would like to hear your thoughts, would you go with that caliber again or not? I know the .177 vs .22 "argument"  rages on. I would like to avoid that here.

I own all 3 calibers. Each has it's own place & uses. As in pellet diameters,so goes the projectile costs and available choices. I really like the .22 and .25 for pesting.
The .177 takes care of mice,rats,chipmunks,plinking etc.
Tuning is almost a given. Tell Mike what you desire ie:lower power with higher shot count,or medium power etc,etc. He also has Rex optics on sale at the moment.
Decent optics for a very low price.

When I received my 705 it leaked from the gage and the block that the gage screwed in to. The gage was loose and the screws that held the gage block were also loose. After I tightened them up there's been no more leaks. I can't comment on the.177 or the.22 as mine is a.25 .

I have not tried slugs in my 705-9K .22 but it is a ground squirrels nightmare with the cheap, soft, Daisy PrecisionMax 15.27gr Hollowpoints. With the huge HP cavity and the soft lead they're made from, they really dump energy on pests.  Have it sighted in about 1.5 inches high at 30yds = about dead-on @ 50yds. Have taken ground squirrels out to 70 yards with slight holdover. Had Mike do his plus one power tune and I have the power adjuster set to 3.25. Am getting at least five magazines or 40 shots from a 3K fill.

Thanks guys, Mike says it will be two months or more before he has 705s in .22 in stock. I guess I will wait, watch and learn. I checked out the pellets you mentioned, it was a pretty good price.

Maybe more members will chime in with their experiences.

I've got three of the .22's, two of the 702's and two 705's(22&25 one is a 25 cal prototype).  I've been neglecting my Sentry's for a while but I know exactly which one I'd grab for squirrel.  It would be my 705-9K .22 with slugs.  I've probably gotten more squirrels with that gun for sure.  They're all still sealed just fine yet.

Thanks Wayne, I'm leaning more toward the 705 in .22 with a good tune. I would love to have some of those slugs you make. LOL. I've watched most all your youtube vids. I've got a pond on my land but not enough, besides deer, to warrant more than the occasional walk thru the trees. My needs are for birds around my shop and the occasional critter. Now if I didn't have to wait for a couple of months I'd be set to go.

I thought I would throw this out there for what it's worth.  I have the 705 Sentry in .22 with Mike's tune and it works great but not really neighbor friendly for me.  The gun that stands in the corner by the back door is one of Mike's tuned Beeman R7's.  That thing is sweet, every accurate and easy to shoot.  Quiet enough for those close in pests and not as heavy or bulky as the sentry.

Rocker1 makes some very quiet LDC's, I honestly am happy with the way that my Xisico Sentry's sound however I only use them in the woods myself.  For my back yard pesting this year so far I've been using my Liberty which has been back yard friendly enough for an occasional shot however I never make a habit of shooting a bunch because the only thing I shoot are red squirrels and ground hogs.  I still might send one of my barrels to David and have him thread it for the LDC's that he's making these days because they're extremely quiet.  In turn I will have to do some modifying because the one that I'd choose would be the newest 702 carbine which I would have to figure out what to do with the plastic piece around the barrel.

I totally agree that shooting outdoors in a hunting situation the Sentry is fine the way it is.  A threaded barrel would be a nice future addition for urban/stealth situations though.

Okay guys, I've been trying to remove the ldc from my 705 but no joy. I drilled a hole in a 2 by 4 and slid the barrel thru it. I grabbed the chamber end of the barrel and pulled it really hard many times but it doesn't move. I want to remove it to polish the bore and check the crown.

Do you have a vise that you could clamp the 2x4 in to hold it?

I did. I'm pulling the barrel with both hands. Did anybody need to heat the LDC to get it off of the barrel.

Try carefully clamping the breech end of the barrel in the vise between a couple pieces of soft wood then sharply tap the 2x4 against the back of the ldc with a hammer, alternating side to side. It has to come off as it's only a friction-fit.

Fortunately when I took mine off using that method it popped right off.
