AIR 17 ( a real pleasant surprise )

my dad bought one off of a member here who contacted me based on a want ad I posted on his behalf, and long story short $68 later he got it today .
It needed the door thing for the bb port which I had from another gun, so I installed it for him.
I also cleaned all the dirt...ect off of it and used an oily rag to remove the light rust, and inserted a wooden loading tray I quickly made for it as a temporary fix till he buys a pack of pellet clips.
It leaked a bit here and there which is expected for a gun made in 1986 that sat in a safe for 15years. A bit more oil and it didn't leak again.
This gun impressed me, a surprisingly solid feel and a trigger that really surprised me.
A much better trigger than I've experienced from any crosman 760 or 66, and close to my lightened 2100 trigger.
The first 7yd 6 shot group I shot with cpp's to sight it in for him surprised me at about 1" ( could be better if he ever wants me to add a rifled barrel for him ) being windy and all I think it did pretty good
The rear sight isn't very user friendly to adjust, but that's to be expected from a crosman.

He bought the bears for my grandmother while he was in the ARMY right around the time he first saw and wanted an AIR-17 so I'm assuming that's why he put it there.

It looks great, AND you got the mag/storage box for the extra bb'S.
 I had found one without.  Had to put a new o ring to get it working, then I passed it on.

Yep overall in good shape which is how I was able to convince him to pull the trigger on it.
He was definitely interested at $20-shipping, but when he found out it was only $20 because shipping was $48 his enthusiasm dropped.
He's sure glad I talked some sense into him, and had lots of fun yesterday shooting cans and plastic army men.
The trigger on this absolutely surprised me.
I don't think I'd want one for myself, but I've seen the crosman 782 which I'm almost positive is a traditional flavor of this action / platform and that's a gun I could potentially go for.

One reason I had for getting rid of it,it would've caused a panic walking around outside with it.
I lived in the middle of town at the time.
 Looks like something your Dad will enjoy!

I wouldn't swear to it, but I believe I still have the guts and barrel from mine when I scrapped it a couple years ago. I know I have a magazine strip and maybe the mag box, also. If you're interested......

It's got it's original faux magazine, and my dad said he's going to buy the 4 pack of pellet clips.
He's hoping one of the Walmarts in our area has them.as they used to, but will order them if not.

I to have the air 17 that I bought back in the 80’s. Just ordered a barrel m4 177 rifiled barrel to swap out the air 17 smooth bore barrel for better accuracy

Neat looking airguns. Especially when they first came out and there was nothing else like them. Wish they were a multi pump but still fun for plinking in the back yard.
I have one that was confiscated by the police and sawn in two through the receiver. What a waste but most of the parts are OK for transplant.

I found one in The Closet of Lost Gold last year that I'd bought for my #2 son when he was 8. Dated Jan '87. Cleaned it up, put it in a nice case, and gave it back to him Christmas of last year. It was complete and in working condition too!

$48 shipping??? Holy Moly!    Still, $68 for a nice AIR 17 is a very good price.....regardless of how you arrive there.
