FWB 65, Getting The Hang Of It

I got this new to me FWB 65 a couple weeks ago and was having a problem shooting with the iron sights. I purchased a cheap ( $20.00 ) Feyachi Reflex Sight to see how I'd like it before spending a lot on a high end model.

When I received it, I was surprised at the quality. I mounted it, sighted it in and liked what I was seeing. It has a 1 MOA so the tiny dot was what I was looking for. This is doing everything I could ask for so as long as it holds up there's no need of spending more on a high end model.

Here's a couple rounds I shot today. Granted they aren't as good as most of you can shoot but for this 71 year old rookie I'm pleased with the way I'm coming along. I'm starting to get the hang of it and the starlings are paying the price. lol

I'm improving daily so I couldn't be happier. Yup, this FWB 65 is a keeper.

Notice on both rounds, by the time I got to the last target I settled down and shot my best group. I couldn't do that with the iron sights.

It's funny, I shot a S&W 41 for years with the iron sights and was deadly with it. Three of my friends also had S&W 41s that had scopes mounted on them and I could shoot as good as they could.

Shooting this 65 springer is a LOT different than the 41. I thought because I was pretty good with the S&W that this would be a piece of cake. It's a learning curve ( for me ) but I'm getting the hang of it and enjoying every minute.

I say that's a pretty high bar for a pistol shooter! I know a lot of pistol shooters  *cough me cough* would have about the same success just throwing the gun at them!

I got a Beeman 800 a few months ago that I have been playing with, lotsa fun!

I haven't shot an air pistol before but spend a LOT of time behind a 22 rimfire pistol.  At the same age you are, 71, with damaged vision, I find the little red dot reflex sights very good.  I must have a dozen of them now on various pistols. 

I have standardized on the Burris Fast Fire system with good results.  I have a bunch of Ruger target grade pistols that do well at both 25 and 50 feet. (best group ever was .25" C-T-C off a rest at 50'.  Average around .5" edge to edge at 50' with good ammunition.  This was better than my SW41 with both the 5.5" barrel and the Clark Custom 6.5" barrel and a Burris sight. 

Anyway"""  my comment is about the reflex sight style that you are using.

i had a couple of those by BSA and some other forgettable manufacturer.  I found that switching between reticles and back again led to a re-zero each time I changed the reticle style. 

You might try an experiment to see if the sight has any parallax.  Shoot a group with the red-dot as nearly centered in the field of vision as possible where you normally would hold it, then put the red-dot as close as you can to the frame up, down, left, and right.  See if the group moves around on the target.  I did this with a Burris and found the the group center moved about 1/4" left right up or down. Not enough to worry about. 

If you get dissatisfied with the one you have, take a look at the Bushnell Reflex sight for a mid price ($100 or so) versus the burris at $200 plus.

Frank, glad to see you doing well with that FWB!  I sold that model 90, but kept the Beeman 850.  I figured that 90 was going to need something fixed that might not be fixable any longer, and wouldn't ever be worth anymore than I got, so...

I figured out how to shoot the irons with bad eyes (apertures on eyeglasses), but my Beeman 850 is still shooting three inches high at 15 yards!  Needs spacers behind the O-rings, but it's on the back burner for now.

I'm having a ball shooting this 65 and have improved dramatically even since the pic taken a couple days ago.

  Unfortunately the elation over the Feyachi Reflex Sight was short lived. Although I love the tiny 1 MOA dot I have to re-zero every session. I re-zero and it perfect for that session whether I shoot 50 rounds or 100. I put it in its case and when I take it out for another session I have to re-zero again. It's to bad because this is a nice little unit.

AS I mentioned, I have not had good success with the open path red-dot sights - at least the cheap ones.  If it fits your pistol, I suggest something like the style that Bushnell, Burris, NCstar and host of others make.  Most of these have a light sensor that changes intensity of dot depending on ambient light.  Dots are 2-3MOA so a bit bigger than you have on yours.  I have an old one that has a 1-2moa dot.  I find it a bit hard to find under challenging light conditions.  Indoor range OK, outdoors not so good. 

I hope you find one that works well for you.  You'll really like them!!!

Yep,  Bouddha, I prefer the Mk II versus the Mk III and really don't like the Mark IV.  My standard setup is the Volquartsen trigger group, remove the magazine safety interrupt mechanism, remove the Ruger rear sight, install the Burris / Ruger base and rear sight.  Gives me a pistol that will shoot  0.5" groups at 50' and about 1" at 25yd.  2.5# trigger.  I have done about 10 for myself and my kids plus half a dozen for friends.  All have good success.

Correction:  Being this is all new to me, ( reflex sights ), I thought my sight has a 1 MOA dot, it does not. It has a 3 MOA dot with 1 MOA click adjustments.

Starting to get some really decent 10 shot groups with the 65 and the reflex sight.
