Saga of the Cosmic King, Long live the King !!!

   We left off making a base carbon fiber cheek piece that was molded to the stock.. Then finished with some twill and finishing epoxy .. Drilled through the cheekpiece while in position on the stock to accept the threaded inserts, then epoxied them in..  After putting the rifle and scope mounted I figured the riser height and used my left over carbon fiber tubing to make the risers .. 

  After dropping tools and bolts many, many times (essential tremors getting worse) My painfull sleepless nights paid off!  I decided to make a captive mount.. No dropping the bolts again !!!!
   After roughing out the curve with my dremel, I taped sandpaper to the stock and sanded to get the contour correct.. I did the same with the top of the risers, taped sandpaper to the inside of the cheekpiece...
  Epoxied some poly washers on the inside of the risers and countersunk the heads of the bolts.. Greased the *(&^ out the bolts so the epoxy wouldn't stick to them.. Then superglued the risers position on the cheekpiece.. Reinforced them with carbon fiber and epoxy so they are very secure...
  Well after that one eyed texan JoeWayneRhea ("dang" you Joe !!! ) did a video on refinishing a stock with wipe on poly high gloss, I had to give it a try.. I did a bunch of research and came up with some info.. The wipe on poly is just regular poly cut in half with orderless paint thinner.. Much cheaper that way..
   Watched a video on refinishing a guitar that was interesting, different and definitly worth a try.. Since this whole thing is a experiment I wanted just to see if I could do it..After stripping  with citrus stripper and bleaching my stock I started to sand.. From 220 to 1500 grit..
  Using a piece of 1500 grit wet dry paper I sanded with the wipe on poly as the lubricant, which sands and fills the grain at the same time.. After three times the grain was filled and a nice satin shine was already present...Then the 6 coats of poly went on.. Wow what a difference !!! Looked good with the contrast of carbon fiber, dark bluing and the light birch stock.. It hasn't even been polished or waxed yet !!
   Lowered the power a bit more to around 14 ftlbs..  If we ever have a day with out the high winds and I can get to the range I can stretch it out because at 10 meters I can't tell a lot..  Have 6 or 8 pellets to try..

The first pore filled formula?  Did you cut it more than 50/50?

Kept it 50/50 and it took about three of the poly wet sanding to fill them all..

Though I am not much a blonde guy. My wife is a striking read-head, LOL!

But I do appreciate fine craftsmanship when I see it.
