Scope Selection

HI All, I have a Walther Talon made in Turkey. It has a very serious recoil pulse. what scope would you recommend for this rifle? Would a UTG Bug Buster hold up to the recoil? It ate a Bushnell in less than 200rds, so i am hesitant to put another scope on it. All replies are much appreciated. Dan

Hello Dan,

Not sure about the BugBuster, but generally UTG and CenterPoint seem to hold up reasonably well to heavy springers with double recoil. I have used both (still do) and have not had any issues.
That said, other members may have some more input!

Whatever you get, opt for the ones with a lifetime warranty and save your receipt.  An adjustable objective (or focus) is a must.  A 30 mm scope tube and an etched reticle are highly desirable as well as they reduce the odds of breaking things inside the scope - they tend to be stronger built scopes.

Beyond the basics a specific scope recommendation is harder.  Leapers does indeed have scopes which fit all these criteria but you never indicated a size for your desired scope, power, or price range.

Sun (Sunopticsusa.com) currently has some fantastic inventory reduction sales going on but they are physically a large scope.  Leapers has a compact 4-16 X 44 that I'm currently considering.  Hawke is generally in the running as well.  Sort out what you really want and go from there.

Out of curiosity, what Bushnell did it break?  I believe that Trophy-level scopes and above are "springer-rated" and the Elite line has a pretty good record on all kinds of spring guns.

I've had one of these on a Stoeger X20s .22 doing about 16+ FTe (springer with a boingy recoil) for over a year with over 1000 shots, and it has not missed a beat yet!
It is fixed 10x power, 30mm tube, side wheel AO, etched reticle, illuminated center crosshairs, smooth focus, locking turrets! Really nice. Every time I take it out, hits the target! I don't want much more than that! And the price!!! Check it out:

I have a Hawke on my Patriot(same recoil as yours) and I have a Dampa mount to hold it.
I have 2000 pellets thru the gun with no ill effects on the scope.

I have the same rifle. Mine's a .22 and has a Hawke Vantage 4-12x40 in Hawke Match mounts rings and close to a 1000 shots I haven't had any problems yet. They have a great warranty so if it does go, it will be the first of something like 20 Hawke scopes I own and all but one are on springers and gas ram break barrels.

Most if not all of UTG's scopes are springer rated and another company with a good warranty.

You might also take a look at the Hammers line of scopes which are supposed to be magnum springer rated, come in several sizes, have a great warranty, most are under $100 on Amazon, include a one piece mount although it's for dovetail, not picatinny and have been getting pretty good reviews here on the forum.

IIRC not all Hammer scopes are rated for springers.  But should state if it is or not in a perticular model.

Mine is a 3-9x40 AO I got from Amazon mounted on my 1000X .25 springer. At least their description says it's magnum spring gun rated and for now anyway, it's $10 less than I paid when I got mine. Figured if I was going to suggest them to other shooters, I should own one...lol.
