Wasted practice?
I'd keep a wary eye on that lady...she's got preconceptions (and not a little snobbishness)...and she's wrong.
YEah...likely they do have good rifles that could shoot 10's and X's all day if her team were up to it....so ask her why doesn't that mappen?
Lets say you had a rifle able to manage 2MOA at 50 feet (that would be about 1/3" groups). If they were on center of a 50 feoot target, that would be all 9's with a random sprinking of 10's.
So for practice, the closer you can get to the theroetical max score, the better you are shooting...and shooting better is the goal of practice.
Her atitude kind ot ticked me off...so full of snobbish BS.
A few paragraphs about PRACTICE and co2 rifles.
So long as they are shot in a stable temperature enviroment and shot at regular pace (as you'd do in bullseye type shooting, they seem to do just fine. Even outdoors,,,,after all, in the time from of shooting a match, just how often does it suddenly drop 20 degrees?
So...I took out the WORST target rifle I own....although I've worked it over quite a bit over the years, it's still running on all stock parts and never had the reputation of shooting great.
Runs on a 12gr. co2, brass barrel soldered to a brass tube, with a 1.2-1.3 pound trigger (which may be too light for some courses of fire). Yep..a rest...was testing the rifle, not my social security aged eyes.
Old Crosman 2000 Challenger co2 (well before the PCP version).
Just for the sake of knowing...it's low power (sub 5 foot pounds) but something like 70 shots from less than 1/2 ounce (12gr.) of co2.
Some time back, my wife took over a different 12gr. rifle. This little Alfa Proj is a lot more classy, and a good bit more accurate. If I could point it, almost all of the shots would be 10's (with an occasional 9 , close enough to merit a re-score). Wife took a look at it and claimed it...so I very seldom get to shoot it (but I maintain it, so I know it's ready to go).
Again, rather than embarrass myself off hand for this post, theser were also bench shot at 50 feet....testing the ability of the rifle (and old man eyes/match sights):
If you haven't got the idea by now, the idea of practice is to aproach as closely as you can the maximum accuracy the rifle has. It's not DIRECTLY about score or group size...it's about how close you can get all that the rifle has to give.
So If I have a rifle that has shown the best it could possibly do is shoot 9-ring groups, then the closer I score to 90% the better I'm getting...isn't that the idea of practice?
So....let the snobby lady be snobby....but if your daughter is willing to put in the practice, she can have the fun of showing her (and her team) that it ain't so much about WHAT you shoot, but HOW WELL you shoot it.

I would agree that the "lady at the Club" is a gun snob.... The difference between a $100 rifle and a $1000 rifle, when shot offhand (standing) won't show up until you have years of practice under your belt.... I know, because I got my Dominion Marksman Silver Shield shooting a 4.5 lb. Winchester Model 69 at 20 yards Indoors in a class dominated by Anshutz "Sporters", which were all out target rifles than happen to weigh under the 7.5 lb. maximum for the class we were shooting.... After I got my Silver Shield I stepped up to a far better 7.5 lb. rifle.... and my scores on standing went up an average of 2 pts. from 95 to 97 out of 100.... I was shooting straight 100s Prone and averaging 99 Kneeling, and those scores remained unchanged with the much more expensive, heavier gun with a far better trigger....
I was "shooter limited".... not "gun limited".... and no amount of throwing money at the problem would have enabled me to get my Gold Shield.... Any practice helps.... and if the guns the Club uses are priced out of reach for you, then mod your Disco for the job, or pick up a Daisy 853.... Unless your daughter is truly one in a million, either gun will be better than she is (standing) for a VERY long time.... IMO....
