PCP Valve Needle Spring

Can anyone explain to me the utility of this needle spring in PCP valves?

- Close the air outlet faster in the valve and save air?
-Manish anti-rebound hammer?

The return spring of valve poppets plays a role in valve timing/lift in balance with hammer setups,plus keep the valve closed and allow refilling at low/zero tank pressure.I heard of springless setups on certain tune tough.

Well, "some" valve spring is needed to close the valve to allow filling from empty (unless you cock the gun and use a sudden burst of air).... The stronger the valve spring, the wider the pressure range an unregulated PCP can be tuned for.... but the more hammer strike needed to open the valve, which makes the gun harder to cock.... The valve and hammer springs work as a pair, and changing one usually requires a change in the other.... In regulated PCPs (or CO2), as I understand it, you can use a very light valve spring.... by adjusting the hammer spring and weight lighter to compensate....
