Hammerli or Mendosa

I have a Mendosa (made for Hammerli) dual caliber rifle.  It came with two barrel inserts a .177 and .22.  Will this rifle fit into this Discussion?  I am looking to see if there might be a .20 or .25 cal barrels available for this gun.

Mendoza is a Mexican rifle... As far as I can discern this would be the best place for it. Regretfully not a gun well-represented in the US but for one or two models distributed under another name. I think the Crosman RM622, I think the Air Venturi Bronco... Mendoza tending not to follow the 'norm' produces some unique arms. After I single-handedly make Cometa a household name, that may be one of my next targets ;-). I look forward to the discussion! I'll back you up!

I have gotten parts from Mendoza. It took forever, but it ended up being very reasonable. .2 and .25 barrels... that may be another story. I've never seen any of their guns advertised in those calibers. On the other hand, it would not surprise me if they supported them.

i owned a hammerli x2,its the same gun as the mendoza 2003 model,just rebadged as a hammerli.
ive searched forever for a .25 barrel.....came up with nothing.

the x2 was a great,accurate,powerfull hitter,sadly my trigger group failed and i parted ways with the gun.
umarex wanted half the price of the gun for the trigger assembly.
i miss my x2 alot.....but life moved on for me...lol.

your best option would be to buy a .25 barrel,have it turned down to fit the x2.....but the side walls of the .25 barrel would be paper thin,barrel may not last long.
i believe the tube on the hammerlis barrel is around .30 caliber.....maybe .33 caliber.

i have a few pics of my x2 when it was apart,if you need any internal info.

I bought this as a refurbished gun ( http://www.airgundepot.com/refurbished-hammerli-x2-dual-caliber-air-rifle.html ) for $125.  I think they still have some more, call first.  The insert barrel is .338 inch so it might be to thin for .25 cal.  The rifle does shoot very nicely but it does have a lot of fliers.  I am using the .22 cal barrel.  I will try a few different pellets am using Crosman CPHP 14.3 right now.  HOPEFULLY as the barrel breaks in it will get better.  I was hopping to see the difference between calibers with the same power plant trying to use same weight pellets.  I also have the Beeman Dual caliber rifle and they change the whole barrel not just an insert.

I found the trigger very interesting.  On one shot I had a combustion in barrel and the rifle jarred quite a bit, the result got my finger pinched between the two triggers.  More suprised than hurt.

the trigger is nice and simple,dual blade,dual springs.

my x2 didnt get accurate till about 600 rounds fired.
20 yards 3/4 inch with crow mags.

and .338 is right,.335 id the barrels o.d. if i remember correctly.i have a barrel set lying around somewhere.

Iīm from mexico, there arenīt .20 or .25 cal mendoza air rifles, but i donīt doubt someone with the right skills and machinery can adapt it one.
As for those flyers, you just have to give them some time for the dieseling to stop.
And yes, the hamerli dual barrel and the mendoza are the same gun, even the venturi bronco had its twin, that model was called "vaquero" here in mexico about 20 years ago.

Good rifles, once they quit dieseling.  Mendoza's are designed with an oil port hole in the top of the compression tube.  When the gun is at rest (not cocked), this hole aligns with a fiber washer ahead of the piston.  The idea is the oil soaks into the washer and then the heavy vapors are dieseled once the piston hits full stroke and the air temperature in the compression chamber reaches ignition temperature.  It does make them shoot pretty hard.  It also makes them wildly erratic, since you can't control the amount of vapor from shot to shot.  Many let them go dry.  They typically lose up to two hundred fps but then pick up in accuracy.  Post about changing the piston over on the Airgun Gate.  More than one owner here has done so.  I had one and sold it (single barrel.177) but was actually impressed with it.  The new owner resealed it and reported that it shot very well.

Now, as to .25, be aware that, once these stop dieseling, they don't hurl .22's with a great deal of authority.  A .25 will be appreciably slower.  If you are OK with that, then you might want to look for a .25 blank to play with.
