Are they still 'in your possession' if they're cooked and frozen?If not, then yes, time to start filling your son's freezer. Maybe cook a few up in a stew to bring over too...

Great shot on your limit squirrel Tom !!! Here in Mi it's a bag limit of five per day, I haven't gotten that yet this year. Unlimited red squirrels though (no bag limit on them).
