Stock refinishing help (HOWIE! Help!)

Or anyone, I have refinished wood more times than I can remember and used tung oil to refinish many fine pieces. Recently i refinished my B28 stock using varnish and really didn't like the way it turned out so I got a new stock and stripped it to bare wood finish sanded it stained and let sit over night, 0000 steel wool tack cloth then hand rubbed on some new tung oil. It dried all foggy and had a haze over the finish. So I 0000 steel wool again cut the oil down with thinner by half and try again same thing. Try on another stock (B26) and get the same results. The temps around here at night have been getting to the middle 30's but I have bringing them in the house which I don't think gets below 50 at night. The humidity is not more than 20%. I have sanded the B26 down to bare wood once again yesterday and re-stained it letting it sit over night. I will try a new application of oil after work today and see if it happens again. Last can of tung oil O got was Formby's about 15 years ago and it was finally gone and I got a new can of some other brand. Maybe this new stuff is junk?
What other oil finish can I use that I can build up to a shine?

I use Formbys oil and find it easy to get the finish I want most of the time. Good luck.

There are alot of different finishes out there. Most Tung oils that you buy are not "pure tung oil" they have other things in them, like poly, linseed oil, etc. Don't expect your first coat to come out with that glossy look, and if you sand too much on the first coat you'll go right through.
Alot of guys like the Tru oil, it depends on what type of a finish your looking for though...
I recently did a ruger air hawk with pure tung oil and a final coat of wax.

Yep, both answers are pretty well known to me. Just can't figure out why the fog or haze this time. I think I will check the other hardware store for some Formby's. This other stuff says pure tung oil but I suspect it isn't.

It is actually "tung" oil, not "tongue". Not trying to be a smart ^&* but it would help in your searches!
I have had great results with Tru-Oil, and not used pure tung on a gun stock yet.

Hey mike,I have to agree with Dave as I do stocks & Bluing here all the time for guys and Tru Oils the Best I've found and easiest to touch
up if they get dinged.Sounds like there's a change in formulation just like everything Good,,they have to mess with it and change a perfect product.Good Luck with the B-28 and Happy Shooting.
P/S: Btw Mike, you'd be the guy to ask ,I'm thinking of adding a .25 Cal B-28 to my collection so I can tune and make her as perfect as I can so what's your opinion on the .25 caliber? Thanks in Advance too. Troy

All I know is - if those aren't typos - I'm darn jealous of your weather. Mid 30's and a 20% humidity would feel like heaven right now. Those of us back east have been roasting for the last 6 weeks or so. Send some our way!

Bandit, I have a B28 in .177 but have read that someone shooting one in 25 cal using the vortek kit is just hammering out pellets. over 25 FPE, read here.
http://www.network54.com/Forum/113813/message/1281539887/B-28+numbers%28.25+cal%29
I would love to have that gun.
I think I got the tung oil figured out, there was some residue from the varnish stripper that left some moisture in the wood. Stripped them all back to wood sanded and flooded with alcohol so far the B26 is going fine with 2 coats.
Mark,
We made it to about 80 today and humidity was maybe 15 all day, 68 right now with about 20% humidity. It will get to about 48 tonight.
