I recently bought a 2240 in one of the <$40 Amazon price wars.
The thought was to get it as close to a casual target pistol (using the 5 M shooting gate conditions as a yardstick) doing only easy and ~no cost mods.
I already trimmed the power down to ~400 ft/s and got the trigger down to under 2 lbs. These really helped but the stock sights were vague for me with lots of gap on each side of the blade. I will eventually make a new blade but didn't want to make a bunch of them with trial and error sizing. I found my temporary solution on the side of the fridge.
I used some of the flexible magnetic tape to make several masks for the existing blade. I happened to have some blank material but the fridge has a bunch with ads of all sorts. The tape cuts very easily and precisely with a razor blade and using feeler gages, the gap can be set and measured accurately.
My stock blade gap is .073"
I made masks at .040" and .050". The former hugs the blade for my hold and the .050" has some light. Both are a lot better than stock. I can switch back and forth, and the masks hold from shot to shot. Once I pick one I'll probably make a new blade or crazyglue one of the masks on. I have other Crosman pistols that need this as well.
The picture shows the .040" mask in place. I also cut the front sight vertical to reduce glare, I'll see how that works.
I am surprised how well the stock 2240 is doing. Hope this is useful to others.

Excellent! I'm going to steal your idea to use on a Daisy Model 104 I have modified to shoot about 320 fps (it also uses a Model 25 spring loaded shot tube). It now uses the spring anchor as the rear sight, as does many low-end Daisy lever action BB guns. These sights are totally unadjustable (example shown below). By opening the existing notch up, I can use your idea to be able to adjust for windage, as it shoots a little to the right of POA, so thanks.
