Stock 1377 chrony data

Got a new 1377 through one of the WM/Amazon price wars. Took some chrony data (5 shot sets Crosman Destroyers 7.4gn) as stock, nothing earth shattering, just to add to the database.

I didn't get up to the 600 ft/sec, 6.32 ft lbs spec. Maybe as it breaks in.

I realize the results are unique to this gun and are otherwise old news to tuners, but may be interesting to new owners (like me  )

What I found interesting was the big difference in energy between this 1377 data and the 1322 data I posted not long ago https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=130190.0

Isn't it true the tube, pump, and valve in these guns is the same? Granted, there are always gun to gun variations, but I didn't expect the efficiency to be that much different.

Great data, I guess it makes sense because the barrels are not long to be optimal, and larger barrel is get more trnasferred energy before exits,

assuming you shoot 8 gr pellets with the .177 and 14.3 with the 1322, we are talking about a 45 % increase in weight on projectiles... 41 percent increase in power would seem appropriate. also a multipump is like a PCP in which they benefit from heavier pellets by shooting them more efficiently. the one thing im doubting is the 8 fpe result with a stock 1322. that would mean that the pellets (14.3) are travelling at a blazing 500 fps. most stock 1322 are generally pushing them at 440 to 450 fps, which is more like 6.5 fpe.  im sure that if they would use a 10,5 gr pellet to test the difference will be a lot less (my 1377 shoots the barracudas at 468 fps at 10 pumps... that is 5.2 fpe). now a modified 13xx is a complete different animal...

Interesting idea about using 10.5gr .177. May worth a try.

The, 1322 data is in the other thread I linked https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=130190.0. 494 ft/s 5 shot avg at 10 pumps with CHP's. Same chrony, consistent data at the lower pump counts....I'm happy to call it a lucky find.

It's much easier to gain more energy from a heavier projectile than from more projectile speed.
Speed is somehow more limited by losses like friction e.g.
But energy is not everything - if a guy bumps into you with 200 lbs and 2 feet/s you also get an impact energy of about 16 joules / 12 foot lbs (if I've calculated correctly) but usually not so much penetration.

I'd say 580 is pretty darn close to the advertised 600 fps. 

Also related to the caliber/energy question, a 397 on average can make around 10fpe while a 392 can make 14 for which is also a 40% difference.

Yeah, no complaints about the 580, I was just comparing it to the spec on the Pyramyd page where they got 600/6.32 ft-lbs with a 7.9gn pellet...that would be about 620 ft/sec with the 7.4 I used.
I'm happy with the pistol.

22 years owning countless 1377s... never got one to break 550 fps at 10 pumps with 7.9s... figure with my luck...

The old rear cocker that I have made it to 500fps on average with 10 pumps, after the ftp and valve was installed it averaged about 610fps with 10 pumps, I was shooting the cphp 7.9g pellet. It averaged 560fps with a 10.34 JSB pellet.

i was refering to a stock pistol... with some luv they are unrecognizable from a performance standpoint. same with the 2240. i just finished a stubby 22xx (5.25 in barrel) and using the springs from a maximus,i got 472 fps with crosman prems. normally a longer barrel stocker will generally struggle to make 440 fps. but a little love...
